“There is no greater agony than bearing an untold story inside you.”- Maya Angelou

My name is Alexis Tarr. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 7 years experience as a clinician. I utilize a client-centered and strengths focus approach to therapy. As an empathic person, it is a natural part of the therapeutic process. Additionally, I believe that we all have the ability to achieve the goals we set for ourselves. As your therapist, I will guide you along this journey. My former clients have described our therapy process as encouraging and motivating. I specialize in providing cognitive-behavioral interventions, coupled with dialectical behavioral therapy and narrative therapy concepts. I have worked with clients experiencing a variety of mental health diagnoses. In addition, I can provide therapy to those experiencing trauma, interpersonal conflicts, gender identity crises, anger/mood dysregulation, grief, and so much more. I have experience working with a variety of client populations, including adolescents, adults, older adults, families, groups, and couples. I have several years of experience providing mental health therapy, including in inpatient and outpatient settings. This has given me the tools to continue providing therapy and improve the quality of therapeutic services. In addition to private therapy practice, I currently work in leadership at a local organization providing mental health services to the community. I obtained my Bachelor of Social Work degree from Lamar University. Following, I went on to obtain my Master of Social Work degree from University of Texas at Arlington with a focus in clinical practice. Additionally, I have obtained advanced trainings in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy (EMDR) and Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM). I follow the National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Code of Ethics. In my life, I always look for opportunities to have fun. I enjoy spending time with my husband, daughters, and dog. In my spare time, I enjoy eating out, going to the beach, and shopping for something new.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.
