More about Michelle

  • 12 years' experience
  • Female
  • BACP

I qualified in 2011 and have since worked with clients with a wide range of concerns, for example trauma (including PTSD), grief, relationship issues, opioid and alcohol addition, parenting issues, self-harm and suicide, depression and anxiety.

My counselling style is engaging and collaborative, gaining insight into your struggles and helping you to move forward from them. I recognise how difficult it can be to begin the counselling journey, and I aim to make it as easy as possible for you, with the view that everyone deserves to feel respect and to feel understood in their time of need.

I am an integrative counsellor, which means I am qualified in a variety of counselling and psychotherapy techniques and approaches, and am able to choose the best one(s) for you based on what you say and how you feel, so that together we can make a personalised treatment plan to reach your desired outcomes.

I use a collaborative psycho-educational approach, which means I aim to make sessions conversational enough to make you feel comfortable, asking you about yourself and what is happening; then helping you to gain insights and put things into perspective, facilitating your understanding of issues in a way you haven’t been able to do before, and teaching you about the therapies I use so that you can take the knowledge with you and apply it into the future.

My main approaches are Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), which focuses on you and your inner beliefs & behaviours and Transactional Analysis (TA), which focuses on your relationships with others. I find the two combined are highly effective in helping people achieve improved outcomes. I also use Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and a range of other therapies I am qualified in.

I am equally experienced in in-person and online/remote sessions, but since Covid I only work online because I am finding that clients really find it easier to work from the comfort of their own surroundings at a time and place they know they won't be disturbed. They also really seem to appreciate not having to add time and travel costs onto the time and costs of the therapy itself.

At the beginning of each person’s counselling journey, I always feel that I am reaching out a helping hand to offer support, guidance and empowerment. I really hope that you will take my hand and together we can get you back on track.

It is convenient for those who may have trouble getting to or would prefer not to have in-person therapy appointments. Michelle has very good intuition for what the underlying issues to address are, instead of just addressing the immediate problem as presented. And she's a good listener, and her suggestions always make sense.

Reviewed May 2024

Michelle is incredibly thorough. She understands and has tons of tools to help me through things. A lot of my issues she hasn’t experienced, but it doesn’t get in the way of her understanding and ability to help.

Reviewed May 2024

Michelle has guided me through one of the most difficult experiences I have gone through, offering extremely insightful, helpful, thoughtful, and compassionate care and guidance to me. I can't express how grateful I am for what she has helped me work through, and I can't recommend her enough.

Reviewed February 2024

Michelle is very understanding and helpful. I’ve only had two sessions and look forward to more.

Reviewed February 2024

Michelle has helped me through a particularly difficult time and a number of issues. Some of the issues were long standing and others more recent. I have been able to talk openly about my feelings and things I’ve struggled with throughout my life and relationships. Michelle listens, provides perspective, guidance and has helped identify the source of many problems. I feel having an outlet and someone to discuss my thoughts with has helped me a great deal and I continue to benefit from the help I receive and have improved my thought processes and managing through difficult times.

Reviewed January 2024

Michelle is very insightful, and has helped to dig up the common themes between some of the points I bring to her, and that leads on to addressing the underlying issues at a deeper level. She also knows when to challenge me to look at things in different ways and to revise my views.

I really trust and value Michelle as a therapist

Reviewed August 2023

As someone who is not very well connected to my internal emotions, Michelle has helped me strengthen that skill in order to unlock the deep rooted challenges I’ve had from childhood. She also always takes time to explain psychological concepts to me and give me actionable things to help progress my self-improvement journey.

Reviewed August 2023
