More about John

Hello, my name is John. I have worked in private practice as a psychotherapist for over fifteen years with individuals and couples ranging from 16 to over 70. In that time, I have worked with a broad spectrum of people from many cultural backgrounds presenting an array of issues. Everyone is different. Over the years I have I have found that the more the client trusts in me the better the result. Therefore, I endeavour to build a strong therapeutic alliance, one where we can be honest with each other, this can take time depending on the client. I believe that the issues we have in life are formed in relationships and that it is only through relationships that they can be resolved. Unfortunately, I don’t have a magic wand.

When you first come along, we will explore your current situation and the feelings you have around it, this will inform us as to why you're here. This may take some time; however, once we've looked at patterns and behaviours and understood their origins, we can talk about options for moving forwards. Then we can work together to find a solution.

I use Transactional analysis in my work where we will look at how we communicate and interpret (analyse) both verbal and non-verbal communication (transactions). How our interpretation of how we were/are treated and spoken to in our lives has led to the difficulties we now face.

I am caring, warm hearted and will tell you the truth about what I think might be an issue and how you can take responsibility for your life.

I look forward to working with you!

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.
