I am licensed clinical social worker (LCSW) in the states of New Jersey and Pennsylvania with over 40 years of experience working as a psychotherapist, mental health clinician and psychiatric social worker. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting problems, career challenges, PTSD and maintaining recovery from drug and alcohol dependence. I also helped many people who have experienced physical trauma or emotional abuse.
My counseling style is warm and interactive. I believe in treating anyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I do not believe in stigmatizing labels. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, problem solving, spiritual and skills development counseling. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.
It takes courage to seek a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps toward a change. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you.
I look forward to working with you!

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.
Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

John was very kind, personable, and open with me. I enjoyed my sessions with him and felt very comfortable engaging with him and asking him questions
I've only had two sessions with John so far, but he has exceeded my expectations greatly and has gone out of his way to accommodate all of my dynamic post-military issues. Would recommend him to anyone
John is very kind, trustworthy, and easy to talk to. He is a great conversationist and listener. It feels good to be heard. Thanks so much for everything, especially for being there for me!!
John is amazing. He has helped me a lot. Great energy, not judgemental, gives varied advice, and is empathetic.
Good ministry perspective and easy to talk to, very encouraging
John is really great
John is truly wonderful. He really helped me look at life in a helpful perspective and be more sure and confident in myself. I’m taking a break from therapy right now and it’s only because John has given me the confidence to do so by helping me during our sessions. I highly recommend him!
He is the best
John is an encouraging, kind and perceptive therapist. I leave sessions feeling understood and empowered. Highly recommended.
I am relatively new to BetterHelp but thus far I am very pleased with Mr. Jacobs' ability to hone in on my specific issues and in helping me build the skill set to live a happy and healthy life.
John is very kind, sensitive and insightful
I have only been with John for a short time. However he is very sensitive to my needs and seems to know exactly what to say to move my intractable dialogue forward. I trust him to be discreet and decent. He lacks judgment and pedantic nagging that has turned me away from therapy for so long.
