I help men gain confidence, competence, and clarity in order to return to a position of effective autonomy. Many men only turn to counselling or coaching after a crisis has already happened. My job is to help you navigate what brings you here and help you better anticipate and prepare for challenges yet to come
My name is Jack Kirton and I am an accredited counsellor, psychotherapist, mentor and performance coach for men. My core discipline is in counselling and psychotherapy and I am Level 5 advanced diploma qualified, with distinction.
Trained primarily in person-centred theory and also qualified in cognitive behavioural therapy, solution-focused coaching and emotional regulation methods, I have over 4000 hours of supervised clinical practice over 5 years and 10 years of prior experience working with young people to develop sound mental health, academic performance, and social development.
I have experience in multiple face-to-face settings and offer remote counselling via online video, telephone, and live text chat sessions. Working from a dedicated private office space I welcome any questions before your initial assessment.
My approach is results-focused and consists firstly of supporting you to find your own answers to the issues you want to address as efficiently as possible. I will share my own perspective and discuss practical tools and strategies when relevant and necessary, this is secondary however to being given the space to be heard, understood, and held accountable to put into action what you already know you should be doing.
I will vary my method to suit your needs however generally advocate the behavioural approach which emphasises taking action with the knowledge that changes in thinking and emotion follow.
Facing the often cold harsh truth of reality can be challenging, especially in a world where we are routinely lied to by individuals and organisations who claim to have our best interests in mind. Sometimes the best way to gain some clarity is to speak with someone with no existing investment or tie to you and your life.
My main priority ultimately is to help you move closer to your own vision for who you want to be and what you want to do and have, according to your own definition and across all levels relevant to you: physically, cognitively, emotionally, socially, and in matters of faith and belief (or lack of), whilst acknowledging the inherent limitations of life.
Presently working with adult male clients only, I specialise in male psychology and men's issues, intersexual dynamics and relationship issues however have worked with a very broad range of challenges with people from many varied walks of life and offer an approach that in the majority of cases will help you regardless of the specific problem.
Being male involves evolutionarily functional but nevertheless complicating factors that commonly hinder or can completely invalidate professional support and challenge as a perceived option to address performance and mental health challenges. Some amount of conflict about accessing professional services is normal.
Thanks for reading my profile, if you think I might suit your needs send me a message and if I am not a good match I wish you the very best of luck in tackling the challenges you are taking action to address.

It is convenient for those who may have trouble getting to or would prefer not to have in-person therapy appointments. Starting at $65 per week, online counseling is generally more affordable than in-person counseling. A study by researchers at University of California, Berkeley found that online counseling can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy while being more convenient, affordable, and accessible.

Amazing person & professional!
I’ve been really impressed with Jack and have found his approach very helpful.
Jack's been a tremendous help this last year that I've been seeing him, I've gone through a rollercoaster of a year but he's always been supportive and at my side, helping me weather the storm in my life while providing insights that have lead me from strength to strength!
I feel like I'm in really good hands, feel comfortable talking to Jack (even though my stuttering usually makes it hard for me to feel comfortable talking to people I don't know so well yet), he responds very specifically to me and immediately understood why I wanted the therapy. I've only had a few sessions, but already feel like it's extremely helpful for me, and I'm looking forward to all future sessions. He furthermore provides me with (voluntary) tasks/worksheets in between the sessions, which help me a lot to think about all of our topics, structure my thoughts and help us both prepare for the next session, these tasks/worksheets are a very good addition to the sessions. He also sent me reading material if I wanted to learn more about some topics. This is the first time I'm in therapy, beforehand I was kinda nervous, but with Jack I feel comfortable and helped well. Therapy with Jack does me a world of good! Thanks a lot, Jack!
Jack is professional, helpful, has deep knowledge and recommends materials and exercises that are tuned to suit me. I'm very pleased with my experience.
Jack is a highly skilled and empathetic expert and knows what he is doing. I highly recommend his services
Jack is an excellent listener and has helped me look at things from a different perspective. With his help and guidance, I have been able to enact changes that have made my life feel easier and on a more positive trajectory. He is always respectful, understanding and insightful, and I always feel the better for our sessions.
Sympathetic when required and focused on achieving a better tomorrow for you when needed. Jack keeps it focused on you . I am enjoying my time with Jack and would recommend you reach out to him if you find yourself directionless and wanting understand how to put the best foot forward. He will guide you to discover how to achieve this.
Jack has been an incredible help to me with his service, I've gained much more confidence in myself and I strive to be a better, stronger man (and human) more with his assistance. He's been instrumental in me striving to move ever forward with my life and leave all my flaws and worries to the wind.
Never interrupts you; has good insights and recommendations; never feels judgemental; never makes me feel rushed toward the end of the session; provided relevant worksheets; always on time; etc
My wife asked me if she should be worried about you know who. I said you should rephrase the question to 'should you be worried about me?' I told her that she did have reason to before but after 6 months of therapy she doesn't because of all the things we've discussed. Namely, I don't need female validation anymore. You asked me if I'd wished anything had been different, I was thinking that I'd wish you'd given me a bit more psychoanalysis and told me what was going on but then I thought about it a bit more and realised what you actually did was give me a platform to figure out stuff for myself. Had you given me some incisive take on my situation then I'd have listened and probably taken positive action for 2-3 weeks. Then dropped it. Cause that's what I do. However when given time to consider things it generates more profound change. And that's what I think you did very well. You let me talk and figure things out for myself. Thanks once again for all your help - I've left you as my therapist if I need to return in the future
I feel much better after the breakup and have found a lot of clarity. Upon reflection I am glad the relationship has ended and am enjoying the next steps. My anxiety has also significantly improved. Thanks for the help/support. I feel at this stage that I'm able to discuss serious issues with friends and no longer feel boxed in
Starting weekly therapy sessions with Jack has been one of the best decisions I've taken in a very long time. I have struggled with pornography use since my early-20s (now early-30s), with the last couple of years seeing consistent and frequent use and associated performance issues and anxieties. I started sessions with Jack in early-May this year, and I am happy to say that I am now on a 50+ day streak of not viewing any sexually explicit images or videos. Our sessions have been immensely helpful and are genuinely something I look forward to each week. In particular, the sessions provide a space for me to describe and reflect on my last seven days in a judgement-free zone, as well as celebrate mini achievements with someone else who is invested in the journey. Cheers for being there, Jack
I've hit the rock bottom of my mental state, and managed to bounce back on the right track with Jack's help. Huge credit to Jack for all the guidance and support. Jack is probably the most careful listener I've ever talked to.
A great guy, very good at listening aiding in issues
Jack has worked with me for 5 months or so and has provided excellent support and guidance in my journey to understand my present challenges whilst allowing me too simply vent when I needed to. I look forward to working with him again.
My Therapy with Jack was quite succesfull and i guess it wasn't easy as i came with not much of a specific problem i wasn't just particularly happy of my emotional state, anxiety and i had issues with communications withing my relationship. Jack was very good at helping me reflect on my problems. He is very good listener and really well connects topics that you mentioned to him over serveral session to helps you come to conclusions.
Jack has been helping me so much since we started. He’s been super helpful and supportive!
Jack is a wonderful therapist and a fantastic listener. He has proven to be keen on helping me talk through and give advice on situations I've struggled with. Therapy with him has been valuable for me, because he has helped me establish strategies to manage my emotions in any situation, no matter how tough, and come out level-headed through them. I've now resolved a situation that I've been struggling with for almost 2 years with the help of Jack's guidance. I feel now in a state of peace for the first time in 2 years. I can't thank Jack enough for his expertise and his kind-heartedness that aided me in becoming a better person. Can't recommend therapy with him enough!
I have completed 4 weeks of counselling with Jack and found it very useful. I found him very easy to talk to and he gave me ideas and tools to look at and consider. By the end of my 4 sessions I feel more positive and more confident about dealing with issues as they arise. I would highly recommend, thank you.
Jack is my third therapist on BetterHelp and have been working with him for a few months now. I really notice and appreciate how committed he is to his work. He has helped me uncover and move through various repetitive issues I have faced for many years, and helps me in my day to day life by guiding me in understanding my behaviours and actions. I feel 100% confidence and trust in Jacks skills as a therapist and the ability to help his clients lead better lives. I’m very grateful I have him as my therapist.
