I have been counselling since 2008. This was firstly in the voluntary charity sector before setting up my own successful private practice in 2012, after achieving my BA ( Hons) in Counselling. This added to my Foundation Degree in Counselling, which I had already achieved. I still continue to work in the Bereavement voluntary sector providing Supervision to other Counsellors.

For myself, I have experienced therapy before, so I do know what it feels like to sit in the opposite chair, and most importantly, the benefits of Counselling. As well as great deal of experience in the Counselling environment, I also have a wide experience of many of life’s issues such as divorce, bereavement, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, redundancy, unemployment, retirement, moving to another part of the country, plus many other issues. In previous occupations, I have gained a wealth of experience in Coaching, Training, People Development and also experienced over many years how much the workplace has changed, how the demands on people have increased substantially with ever decreasing resources and the toll that this takes on people, including management.

You may have reached a point in your life when you feel that you need to ask for help to assist you in trying to deal with an issue, or in trying to understand it, or in coming to terms with it. There may be an issue in your life which is causing you distress or anxiety, or it may be that you may not be feeling right about something and you are unable to pinpoint the reason why. In a welcoming, secure and confidential environment, without being judgmental, I can help you explore those issues and feelings. We are however all unique and our experiences are unique as well, so there is no one size fits all. By really listening empathetically to what you are saying and reflecting back to you what I am hearing and feeling, we can work together in overcoming or coming to terms with the issues.

Counselling is not really about telling you what to do, it is more about helping you to help yourself. Within the Counselling environment and with my help, you can decide on the best way forward for you. I will draw on different models of therapy to help you and these therapies can really help you understand your issue.

I like to also approach your situation from a practical view and so do not just look at your presenting issue, but importantly look at the causes and what are the factors that are feeding into it, thereby prolonging your situation and causing your continued distress.

Alan has honestly changed my life. He is a kind, patient and empathetic listener and through this counseling process I was able to share with him my deepest shames and regrets which held me back for 15+ years. I had never thought I'd be able to process the things that I have, but I can confidently say I feel like I can finally move forward from things which had been holding me back and keeping me stuck. Because of this work, I am now over 1 month free of addictions I never thought I'd be able live without. I would absolutely recommend working with Alan, I am so grateful for what he offers and the work we have done. Thank you Alan for providing me with such a safe space and supporting me to be free.
