MY APPROACH AND TRAINING:

My therapy is led by trauma-informed approaches.

I utilise both talking and somatic body therapy approaches into my sessions.

I am specialised in helping those who have experienced early trauma and neglect.

As a Polyvagal Informed Therapist I explore how your nervous system helped you to survive stressful or dangerous situations. Polyvagal-Informed Therapy aims to support individuals who are suffering with chronic emotional dysregulation by

understanding the impact of trauma on the nervous system.

For many people who have experienced trauma, forms of Addictions (behavioural and substance), Compulsive Behaviours (For example OCD and Sexual Addiction) and Eating Disorders develop. In order to cope with overwhelming emotional and physical experiences many people a temporary sense of regulation in such behaviours.

I offer a non-judgmental approach in supporting individuals in their recovery journey.

TALKING THERAPY:

My training in Schema Therapy and Parts Work helps people to identify patterns in their life which may trigger strong feelings or parts of who they are. These Talking Therapies support developing a healthier way of relating to ourselves. This can also be helpful in understanding how past experiences may affect your responses in relationships.

I have completed additional training in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Psychodynamic Therapy, Gestalt Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, Mentalisation Based Therapy, Mindfulness Based Therapy and Grief Counselling.

SOMATIC BODY THERAPY:

My training in Somatic Experiencing (SE) and Transforming the Experience Based Brain (TEB) supports people in learning to feel safe in their bodies. In overwhelming situations, especially those which occur at crucial stages of early development, there are very real physiological and neurological consequences.

This can make our bodies feel like unsafe places, where we learn to habitually disconnect from what’s happening inside.

Commonly this results in the developmental of stress related symptoms such as: Chronic Pain, Digestion Issues, Headaches, Fatigue, Sleep Disorders and Problems with Memory and Focus

Online counseling, sometimes called teletherapy, refers to talk therapy delivered remotely through digital platforms, such as video calls, phone calls, or chat. It can be a great option for people who face barriers to traditional face-to-face therapy, such as those living in remote areas, individuals with mobility issues, or people with busy schedules that make it difficult to attend in-person sessions.

Teletherapy also offers greater convenience and flexibility, allowing clients to access care from the comfort of their homes. Research shows that the treatment outcomes with online counseling are often just as effective as with traditional therapy, providing a viable alternative for individuals seeking mental health support.

Jacob is incredibly professional - he is prompt in communication, compassionate in sessions. He does a great job providing structure and narrative to what I am going through and to our work together. He also does an excellent job giving realistic advice/perspective and not promising more than therapy can deliver. Hands down the best therapist I have worked with.

Excellent health care provider. Provides structure and guidance rather than telling me what to think or just letting me talk endlessly. Challenges me while providing space for me to feel and express the things that need saying. Makes excellent use of our time slot every session.

Working with Jacob challenges me to show up for myself and put the work in to overcome unhelpful patterns in how I think about myself, approach relationships and respond to difficult situations in my life. He always validates my experience, while offering a new way of looking at things. Therapy sessions with Jacob have been one of the best things I have ever done for myself. Everyone should have someone as supportive, friendly and trustworthy as him to talk to.

Reviewed February 2023

Jacob has really helped me get in touch with my feelings, understanding myself better and learning to tolerate discomfort so that it does not overwhelm me. He has helped me with my eating disorder, anxiety and obsessive negative thought patterns. He always responds in a timely manner and sends great advice and resources to watch/read. Thank you Jacob!
