More about Ruth

I have been counselling individuals, couples, children, and families for over thirty years. I initially trained as a social worker at the University of Chicago where I received an MA. I married my English husband in 1967. I came to the UK in 1970, had two children and trained with Relate (a charity providing relationship support throughout the United Kingdom). As a mature student, I returned to university and did a Ph.D. on the impact of hearing loss on family life at the LSE (London School of Economics). This gave meaning to my own hearing loss. I am an excellent lipreader. I also have a diploma in Family Therapy. For 12 years, I was the principal clinician of a charity (HearSay) that I founded for individuals with special needs and their families. Currently, I have a private practice where the focus is individuals, couples, and families who have experienced adversity. I was initially trained psychodynamically. Today I see myself as having an eclectic approach where I draw upon understandings from Carl Rogers, CG Jung, cognitive therapy, and systemic work. When working with individuals, I am particularly concerned to empower them and help them move on to the next stage in their lives. Along the way, they are likely to obtain insight and understandings from past experiences. I have a particular interest in cross-cultural, disability, gender, and religious issues.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

Dr Morgan Jones is an excellent listener and synthesiser and takes a genuine interest and curiosity in me, to help me get to the bottom of things. She is wise and well-read in the psycho-analysts. She gets right into the session straight away which allows you to make the most of the time, and can be flexible in her style of approaching discussion. Therapy has been a pleasure so far.

Ruth is extremely professional and patient and seems genuinely invested in being there for people and healing internal wounds without judgement. This allowed me to reveal my true self that I am generally afraid to show anyone. Probably due to her many years of experience or extensive knowledge, Ruth has an uncanny ability to know about things that may have happened that I have not mentioned yet. Ruth is very good at what she does.
