Joni brings me back from the cliffs edge every time. I wouldn’t be able to function without her guidance

Reviewed December 2024

Joni is an amazing therapist. I honestly wouldn’t be able to do the things I do without talking to her. Even just a little chat outside our sessions is enough to help. She listens so well and her responses are so amazing. Not only that she connects to you as a person. You don’t have to worry about being professional or it being awkward she goes at your pace. And is just an amazing person.

More about Joni

  • 17 years' experience

Hello, and thanks for visiting my profile! My top specialties as a clinician include PTSD and Trauma, Addiction (both chemical and behavioral), along with Depression and other mood disorders. My therapeutic approaches involve pulling from many counseling techniques to find an approach that best fits the individual client. Some of those techniques include Cognitive Behavioral, Person Centered, Reality, and Narrative type therapies. I use an informed consent model, as knowledge equals empowerment.

A little about me - Counseling was something I had always wanted to do, but I didn't pursue it until later in life. Years ago, I lost a spouse to suicide, and the grief was consuming. Once I was able to see more clearly, I enrolled in a Master of Counseling program in hopes of being able to ease the grief of others in similar situations. I did get my degree and My LPC (Licensed Professional Counselor) license, and also accumulated significant life experience which, in short, has helped me become the therapist I want to be. For example, I am a recovering addict, going on fourteen years' clean time, and am active in twelve step recovery. Also, I am a proud member of the LGBTQIA community.

Before making my decision to become a remote-based therapist, I accumulated significant on-site work experience. Some of that includes working with domestic violence survivors, addiction (men's and women's, both out patient and residential), plus children's residential, and crisis stabilization. I look forward to working with you!

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

I have the ongoing privilege of working with Joni Rodriguez, and I can’t speak highly enough about the positive impact she has had on my life. From the very first session, I felt understood and supported. Joni's expertise in PTSD and trauma is evident, and her ability to tailor her therapeutic approach to my specific needs made all the difference. Joni's approach is both compassionate and empowering, and I always feel like an active participant in my healing journey. She has a deep understanding of grief and loss, which resonated with me on a personal level and her empathetic perspective that truly sets her apart. What I appreciate most about Joni is her genuine commitment to my well-being. She not only guides me through my struggles but also provided me with the tools and knowledge to continue growing and healing outside of our sessions. Her professionalism, combined with her warm and approachable demeanor, creates a safe and trusting environment where I feel comfortable opening up and working through some of my most challenging issues. The best support as always

Reviewed May 2024

She's the best! Not only does she help me talk about my struggles, but I know if I dump a huge rant on her or on my journal for her- she will read it. Give some words of advice/ encouragements/ support, depending on the situation, and she will reach out about it during our session. She's excellent about reminding me to schedule my sessions and understanding about my Autistic and ADHD struggles. I've missed more than a few sessions without feeling guilted. As long as I keep up my communication, it's a 2 way street based on respect. I adore her and only hope I do right as her patient. I know she's in my corner, she checks on me, she validates me, and sometimes she just listens. Sometimes that's all I need. But biggest thing for me is knowing that she's fighting for my best interests. I've been gaslight so much that just having that simple validation has been amazing on my psyche. I'm better for having known her.

I am so grateful for joining Better Help and being matched with Joni. She’s an amazing therapist who listens and accepts me for who I’m trying to become. She’s helped me grow emotionally and move through my trauma at my pace. She gives me tools to help me through my difficult times and reminds me of my growth. My mental health would still be so dismal and poor if not for Better Help and Joni.

Joni has been nothing but supportive from the very start. When I told her my initial concerns, she did everything that she could, even outside of our sessions, to help me. When I told her I was hoping to explore other avenues of therapy with her, she was enthusiastic and more than happy to continue our sessions. I have learned about myself more than I have in YEARS being with Joni. She always finds a way to help me understand things that I come up short in, and when I tell her my progress, she is extremely supportive and positive. I would recommend Joni to anyone and everyone.
