More about Dawn

  • 6 years' experience
  • Female
  • LCSW

I am a veteran with 9 years of active duty experience so I have first hand knowledge of work stress, deployments, reintegration, and transitioning to civilian life. I completed graduate school at Louisiana State University then spent the last 6 years as a Social Worker with mostly inpatient experience which means I have seen individuals at their absolute worst and have been able to assist them with gaining stability and begin the process of gaining a better quality life. I most recently facilitated substance abuse group therapy with active duty members. I use a patient-centered approach and evidence-based intervention techniques to support clients in creating and living their best lives. I use a person-centered approach with a focus on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) for treating depression and anxiety by challenging negative thought patterns and inaccurate core beliefs. I use Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) to treat interpersonal issues, emotional dysregulation, and distress tolerance. I use Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) to treat PTSD and trauma related disorders. I also use attachment-based theories, mindfulness, internal family systems, and positive psychology when required. I prefer to use a multimodal approach for treating substance abuse and co-occurring disorders.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.
