Fantastic therapist, particularly for younger to mid-life adults! Very easy to connect with and gives a great variety of advice. She lives IN the world, not outside of it - a strength I have found lacking in other therapists. Compassionate and disciplined; she will help you navigate this crazy world. Couldn't recommend more! - 28M, NYC

Great person and easy to talk to.. and that’s coming from someone that doesn’t talk and didn’t think I’d ever be able to talk to someone that would understand and help me understand myself.

I am a licensed mental health counselor in New York with over 10 years of experience working as a counselor/therapist. I received my undergrad in Criminal Justice and Psychology from the University at Albany and hold a dual Master Degree from John Jay College of Criminal Justice in Forensic Psychology and Forensic Mental Health Counseling. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including substance use, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, career/work challenges, and parenting problems. Some of my clients over the years have also suffered and experienced trauma/abuse and/or involved with the criminal justice system.

My therapy style is warm, empathetic, supportive and inclusive. I believe in treating anyone and everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, mindfulness, motivational interviewing, and psychodynamic therapy. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.

I look forward to working with you!

Marissa has helped me so much ever since I joined betterhelp! She's patient and understanding, and she's great at taking what I tell her and then reitirating in a more simple, straightforward and objective way. She understands and takes into account all my thoughts and concerns, no matter how frequently they reoccur, and her help has helped me progress a lot over the time we've worked together.

Reviewed April 2023

Marissa has always stay in contact with me. Despite even when I’m too busy to respond d. She listens intently and replay with tangible solutions and suggestive corrections that never feel like I’m wrong for how I initially handle a situation but instead she says there was another way I may not have seen due to where I was mentally or emotionally at that moment. And it’s all okay! She always lets it be know no one has it all together. But that we are all growing to just be the beat version of our selves.

Reviewed January 2023

Marissa's way of working is just what I needed: patience, compassion, grounding and constant intro-spection. She is aware of my concerns and my feelings, and she knows how to make me reflect on things without blaming myself. She knows how to redirect the conversation when I get too overwhelmed or caught up with something that's off-topic while still listening to me and keeping it all in mind. That, and we continuously work on small-scale, practical exercises and things I can do to navigate my struggles, which has helped me get much better at understanding and facing my emotions and negative thoughts. Overall, Marissa makes me feel the most comfortable I've ever felt with a therapist, and I feel seen and heard. I appreciate her work very much :)

Reviewed November 2022

Marissa is a great therapist - she looks at issues from different angles, is never judgmental and is always understanding of the reason(s) that brought you to therapy.

Reviewed November 2022

In just a short amount of time, quite literally less than three weeks, Marissa has helped me to completely alter my thinking habits, help me heal through some present-day toxic trauma and ultimately has supported and guided me through my self healing journey. I feel that Marissa is very fluid with her conversational points. I don’t feel like I’m in a rush when I’m in therapy with her. I feel like we cover a broader span of issues in one session, but they cohesively flow within the conversation itself. It’s not jagged and disorientated where we’re just jumping topic to topic as if we’re trying to complete a checklist. Everything flows seamlessly in the conversation but yet it has still been tactfulness and I get extremely educated on my issues, and I gain the confidence to leave the sessions believing then throughout the rest of the week I will perform as a healthier human being. And I love the fact that she is very prompt with her answering. And I don’t feel like just a number with her. I am forever indebted and extremely grateful to all that she has given me, guided me on, and granted me through her wisdom and support.
