Dr Duval-Harvey has been very helpful to me! I feel like I’m making good progress and small life changes that are making a real difference in my life and how I feel. She’s personable, keeps things real, is thoughtful in her responses, and I feel I can relate to her and tell her my true feelings and thoughts.

I haven't been seeing her for long but I have made a lot of progress in that time. She's very understanding but is not afraid to tell it like it is. I am very comfortable with her and am willing to open up about the difficult things.

More about Jacquelyn

  • 3 years' experience

  • Psychologist

I am a clinical psychologist and have been licensed in the State of Maryland for over 25 years. I was born in St. Lucia, a Caribbean Island in the West Indies, and immigrated to Brooklyn, New York as an adolescent. My personal knowledge and clinical training working with English-speaking immigrants has resulted in significant understanding and expertise in family re-unification, challenges related to dual identity and adjustment in multigenerational households.

I received my master’s and doctoral degrees from the Pennsylvania State University and my clinical training at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine at Elmhurst Hospital in Queens, New York. I moved to Maryland in 1998 to provide school-based mental health services in the Baltimore City Public School System in partnership with the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Health Services at Johns Hopkins in Baltimore. Ultimately, becoming head of the department and finally retiring from Hopkins, leading all child related psychiatry programs, as Director of the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Outpatient Programs.

My clinical work primarily focuses on supporting individuals transitioning to adulthood (ages 16 to 24 years), adults, seniors and families struggling with anxiety and depression from grief, loss and coping with life challenges.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.
