James is a good therapist. He listens to me and redirects some of my thoughts into a more productive line of thinking while giving me real world perspective on it. He can be direct but that is very much needed for me and much appreciated.

Greetings!
I am James K. Slaton and I have been a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) since 2015. I graduated from Western Kentucky University and my previous experience in mental health includes working at a State Mental Hospital, Community Mental Health Crisis Unit, and Child Protective Services as an ongoing worker and investigator. I started providing mental health counseling/therapy in 2012 working with children and their families. My experience includes implementing management strategies for depression, anxiety, substance abuse, relationship issues, and effects of trauma to name a few. My overall approach is based in Reality Therapy. I am trained in several modalities and utilize them interchangeably to create an environment where my patients are/or become an expert on themselves and can teach me how to help them. I bring my own expertise to the session shaped and formed through life experiences, the search and acquisition of knowledge, and taking an empathetic approach to all situations. Passing judgment, discriminating, following social norms, or utilizing sympathy as a tool is not a part of treatment I deliver. My approach is straightforward and solution focused. If you feel that no one ‘gets’ you or that no one has been there, you may be correct but I believe that can change so give me a try! I make no promises, but I also tell no lies; if you possess the stamina we will win the race! If stamina is lacking, we will condition and win the race anyway!

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.
Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

James is personable and professional, always great to speak with
James listens well to my concerns and gives me tools and insight into how to help myself work through my various issues. Recommended.
Have been working with James and right from the start made me feel comfortable and heard, offered amazing support and feedback and is someone I would never hesitate to reach out to when I need help and support he is amazing highly recommend!!!
Good listen. Insightful feedback.
James has the demeanor of an interested friend while maintaining a very professional atmosphere. He adeptly walks that line. He listens well and his feedback is never condescending. That's important for someone with self esteem issues. He validates my feelings while offering the proper rails to help keep me on a proper path of thinking. It feels like he isn't so much motivating me as he's helping me motivate myself. It's been an overwhelming positive experience for me. I would highly recommend his counseling style.

James has been a great positive help so far. He's a great listener and offers practical advice towards effective help
I would like to give this some thought because I'd like to word it in such a way that that my message can be sent through properly because I have been inspired by James and I want to give him his due. he has he going to help me with a lot of things that I have forgotten and that has come out and it makes me a more confident person I guess that this is his review so I'm still working on some things with him that I still have an address yet so still some more work to do
Haven't been to therapy in years, I feel relaxed and open speaking to him and he always has new ideas to help with my problems as well as unending support for decisions I may be on the fence about.
He has been very patient and understanding
James is patient. Keeps me and my mind on track and is helping me change my perspective.
James turned out to be exactly the type of therapist I need. He's real, he's kind, and so understanding and helpful. I'm grateful that I was matched with him. He meets all of my needs and more.
