We all struggle in some way. Reaching out for support from friend(s), family, community, and/or therapist is what we (hopefully) do. That can be among our greatest struggles -- asking for help. Counseling or therapy is one way to get the objective and private support you need. I can assist you in identifying and altering the patterns of thinking, feeling, and behaving that keep you from moving forward in life. Bringing 30+ years of experience in the field of clinical social work, I help my clients through use of an eclectic approach within a cognitive-behavioral framework. The approach involves honest, reflective processing, measurable goal-setting, psychoeducation, and respectful human support. My clients gain understanding of the core brain-outer brain dynamics and how to take control of those through various assignments and exercises which challenge current patterns of thinking and managing emotions such as fear and anger. We discuss and examine behaviors that are counterproductive and no longer useful and work together to develop new, more productive behaviors. I bring extensive experience in diagnosing and treating clients with anxiety disorders (including PTSD), depression, addictions, and relationship problems. Effective counseling and therapy does not have to be overly complicated but should consistently challenge you to reveal yourself and come to answer some of your own questions. As such, I offer my clients insights and information to help them regulate emotion, solve problems, answer their own questions and learn to act through love of self and others. Working with clients is both an opportunity and a privilege for me. I would be happy to chat with you about my counseling approach and how I might help you in your journey so that you can make an informed decision about seeking counseling or therapy.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

Victoria is immensely gifted at giving people the space they need to be forthcoming about their lives, concerns, and emotions. She makes it easy to get to the root of issues by allowing patients the time they need to respond and review. I love how she breaks things down in our sessions and really allows me to look at my life from all angles and all new perspectives.

Reviewed January 2023

Victoria was initially cordial and responsive. I was pressed on time because I couldn’t afford another month of therapy and only had 3 sessions left. Because I’m in lots of pain, I was trying to use message support to my advantage and it felt like forever until my video appointment with Victoria. After doing my best to be considerate of Victoria’s time and attention, she began to message in a way I felt was unprofessional, shortening her responses to “YW” (you’re welcome) and after having a much needed revelation about what I needed to work on where I was very vulnerable, she responded with “sounds good” When I mentioned she seemed disconnected, Victoria made no efforts to resolve this, or communicate/reset expectations, instead advising me to choose another therapist. When I honestly asked her how I could trust her if she seems uninterested in what I’m saying, she said I appeared manipulative and that she doesn’t offer “live chat” which doesn’t make sense as we started going hours between replies. I explained her profile says she offers messaging and it would be nice to be courteously engaged instead of feeling like I’m messaging her personal phone (bothering her). Victoria stopped responding, ignored me, and chose to not terminate our “match” instead leaving it up to me. Overall I found her to be uninterested, dismissive, detached, and uncaring about my concerns, as well as basically calling me manipulative for not liking her limited and narrow use of online therapy messaging. I understand not every therapist is compatible for every client, but seeing as the entire point of Better Help is to make online therapy accessible and convenient to people who don’t have it, it seems that Better Help is not the platform for her, and she should stick to in person sessions if she is incapable of keeping up with the very basics of messaging etiquette, empathy, tone, and basic acknowledgment. Very disappointed in every way and I would not recommend her to anyone I care about.
