More about Michelle

  • 4 years' experience

I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and Therapist who has 30 years of experience of working with all ages of adults in a variety of roles. I've been a Therapist for over 5 years. Among other areas, I work with clients on dealing with insomnia, work issues, career searching, incarceration, depression, relationships, parenting, life transitions, health and disability challenges, caregiving, and coping with stress. Before becoming a therapist, I worked with adults ages 18 to older adult, with physical and/or behavioral health diagnoses, and/or disabilities. I have held roles in aging, adult day, community re-entry, hospice, home care, and more. I offer coaching around job searching and employment challenges. I've worked with individuals in correctional facilities. I offer a safe, non-judgmental space and discuss each client's goals for therapy. Together we examine negative thought patterns and behaviors that can make life more difficult and keep one "stuck." I'm an LGBTQ+ ally. My approach is compassionate, supportive, and client-centered. I utilize various evidence-based treatment approaches, including Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Motivational Interviewing, Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Problem-solving Therapy (PST). I'm also trained in CBT for Insomnia. I’m an advocate of movement, exercise and good nutrition, for optimal mind-body, "whole person" health. I encourage clients to make small changes that can lead to positive outcomes in their lives. All change is incremental and takes time. Today’s stressors are something that none of us could have foreseen. I strive to support my clients in being their most happy and healthy selves. We’re all a work in progress. I’d like to be there for your journey.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

I really like working with my therapist, I feel comfortable spending time with her.

Michelle was wonderful from the first interaction. I worked through a few things with her, including considering changing careers. She helped me with the skills to be able to make the change, but more importantly the confidence to know that I was making the right move. I highly recommend working with Michelle, she is personable and kind.

I’ve love to work with Michelle. She has a way with words and has this calm energie making it easy to talk.

Michelle has been a God send for me. She helps me to hold both myself and those around me accountable while also playing devil's advocate, helping me to be more honest with myself about events and my personal feelings. She makes me feel more like I am speaking to a friend and gives me reasonable "homework" (like light/great reading!). Michelle has helped me to better relationships with myself, others, my colleagues/work-life balance, and my family as a result of our few sessions together. I can't wait to see what positive changes more sessions will bring!

After meeting a couple of time with a *different* therapist that I just didn't seem to be connecting with, I decided to switch things up. I am very glad I did. Michelle is very relatable, and easy to converse with. More importantly, I feel like she is able to hear my various concerns and extract the issues that I need to focus on. If you are still looking for a professional to talk to, I highly recommend her.

5 minutes into my first session I knew I was in good hands. She has provided resources and reassurance for one of the reasons I need therapy for! I am looking forward to working with her to get on the right path.

I wear t really sure about getting help, but Michelle made me feel at ease. She picked up on certain signs and cues that lead me to finding out I have ADHD. She’s also very big on educating her clients and encouraging us. Would definitely recommend her to friends/family

Michelle is a wonderful therapist. As a high anxiety performer Michelle has taught me the necessary tools to take a step back and feel. To acknowledge the feelings and how to respond in a healthy manner. I am forever grateful!

Reviewed June 2022

I feel like I am talking to a friend. the most reassuring therapist I have had in awhile & the reassurance is amazing for my primary concern which is anxiety. She lets me talk, contributes to the conversation & will direct the conversation back to my anxiety in a good way. I used to finish therapy so exhausted from crying and now i finish it feeling better and wanting to try new thing. For example I told her how shopping is hard for me because i am so insecure and anxious, we had a long conversation about it and i actually went shopping that day which is SO big for me. She’s great!

For the first time I have a therapist that actually is helping me with my issues and getting me to work through my issues and work on getting better and getting things done. Sincerely, Jennifer Cerini

Reviewed March 2022

We’ve only just completed our third session but already Michelle has really opened my eyes as far as my behaviors go & the reasons behind those behaviors. I’ve had several “a ha!” moments and always feel lighter after a session.
