Greetings! I have been a licensed psychologist in Minnesota for over 30 years, and during that time I've worked in public schools, in higher education as a counselor educator, and doing individual counseling work. At the core of my work is a deep respect for the clients and students with whom I work, and a strong belief in people’s ability to grow and transform themselves when provided with the support they need. I am well-versed in a variety of counseling theories and techniques, but it really comes down to the way you would like your counseling experience to look and feel. Let's not worry about adhering to a certain theory. Rather, let's figure out what you want and need. And if this is your first counseling experience and you don't know what you want it to look like, no worries. We'll figure it out together.

While each client may have a different counseling experience, if you are my client you can expect a few things. We will have a thorough conversation about what you would like to be different in your life and how counseling can help you get there. Our conversations will be mostly strengths-based, meaning we will focus more on finding solutions than immersing ourselves in problems. But sometimes people need to talk through their problems before moving forward, and if you need to talk difficult past experiences, or times you have been marginalized or discriminated against or otherwise mistreated, we will talk about that for as long as you need, and you can expect to feel strongly supported. If you have experienced trauma or loss, we will talk about that. If you come to a session and just need to vent to a caring listener, that is what will happen. But the overarching goal of our sessions will be to help you move forward and figure out a path to a more fulfilling life.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.
