More about Susan

  • 11 years' experience
  • Female
  • LMFT

I have been a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist for over 11 years, with experience conducting individual and group therapy. I work with clients who are dealing with a wide range of challenges including anxiety, depression, addiction, abuse, relationship issues, adjustment issues, grief and loss, and compassion fatigue .

I use a person centered approach when in a therapeutic relationship with clients. This means I make a consistent effort to meet each client "where they are" as they progress through the process of self exploration. I use evidence based modalities that include Cognitive Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, Mindfulness Therapy, Narrative Therapy as well as Psychoeducation.

I approach my sessions as a team, addressing challenges together, as the client is the expert of his/her story. I create a space where we can work on resolving issues and where we can collaborate on treatment plans that are tailored to each client's personal needs and experiences.

When working with clients I strive to make the therapy experience genuine, positive, respectful and safe. Through a humanistic approach I assist clients in creating and meeting their goals, to address difficult life issues and challenges, and to regain a new perspective on life.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

Ms. Susan is my first ever therapist and I am very glad to have her. She is gentle with her approach but she doesn’t condone with any behaviours or thoughts that might be harmful to my mental and physical health. It’s a good sign of a good therapist: gentle yet firm. She is one of the people that inspires me to start and keep going with my career path as a therapist. It was very difficult to start therapy, even as a psychology/counseling student because I don’t like to admit that there is something I need to work on about myself. Therefore, it’s extremely important to have a therapist that can walk me through all the problems and give me the tools to deal with them, without needing help 24/7 from others. Susan helps me see many perspectives of life, which is such an eye-opening moment to know that there is no one answer-fit-all. Instead of changing who I am, therapy with Susan helps me improve the good side and improve the not-so-good side of me. She didn’t question me why I didn’t seek help earlier. Instead, she told me that it was the right time for me to seek therapy because I was ready. I love that she helped me see how beautiful it is to love and to be loved, and every relationship has a value to my life, even the one that failed. As someone in their early 20s, I really need to have a guidance from people who are caring, knowledgeable, and experienced. I am lucky to have Susan to be one of those people.

Susan is very good at what she does. I was apprehensive about returning to therapy sessions but she was very disarming and non judgmental. She took the time to listen to what I was feeling and offered multiple tools and resources to help me along my journey. I highly recommend her.

Susan and I immediately had a rapport that I did not have with another therapist. She is quick to react, empathetic and sympathetic but also offers real resources. Her help has been appreciated very much, along with her humor and wise words. Thoroughly recommend her.

Reviewed December 2023

Susan is an empathetic listener who was able to pick up on subtle cues in my introductory questionnaire to pinpoint a solid starting point for my therapy. She got to the root of my troubles quickly and efficiently, and was able to provide encouragement and resources to help me work on addressing them. I highly recommend Susan for anyone looking for support.

Susan has been helping me a lot so far, with understanding myself more, while listening very carefully. She takes my goals into account and gives me very helpful practice exercises that I have incorporated in my daily life. I have been growing faster and more confidently since seeing her.

Reviewed January 2022

Susan helped me through an incredibly difficult time when I felt like no one else could. From multiple therapists, to family and friends, I felt lost and like no one could give me any real guidance. Susan gave me the tools I needed to aid in my grief but also the space and permission to feel my feelings. I am forever grateful.

Reviewed January 2022

I went through a few therapists and was about to give up on BetterHelp but I decided to messaged one last therapist, Susan. I am very glad that I did. It was not that the other therapists were mean or bad, I simply did not feel connected to them. Susan really understands my issues. She listens so well and offers me solid input, advice, and tools I can use moving forward. She has helped me make big, necessary changes in my life. She has been a support system that I did not know I would lean on so heavily. She checks in on me throughout the week. She goes above and beyond to find other resources for me in my local area. I have found a gem of a therapist and I almost don't want to share, but honestly, I cannot recommend Susan enough.
