Hello, my name is Elizabeth DeFanti. I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC) and National Certified Counselor (NCC), with a Master of Arts and Master of Education from Teachers College, Columbia University. I consider it a privilege to practice in the counseling profession and I have experience working with individuals with a wide range of concerns such as anxiety, depression, addiction and substance use, relationship issues, career path, and more.

I believe my role as a clinician is to provide a safe haven, honoring you with respect, nonjudgment and compassion along your unique journey. Our shared space is collaborative and creative where you are the trusted expert in your life, and I a guide and consultant to assist you in achieving your desired goals.

My therapeutic approach is client-centered and holistic in nature with attention to your mind, body and spirit. I draw on principles and techniques from various therapies depending on your particular needs, values and goals. My work is informed by Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) which places great importance on attachment, emotion and its regulation, experiencing, and both internal and interpersonal dynamics or “dances”. I also value Positive Psychology with its focus on strengths, resiliency and meaningful fulfillment. Mindfulness, self-compassion, distress tolerance, and breathing practices can help increase acceptance and presence in the here and now. The Multicultural Counseling perspective also influences my work. This means that I am aware of my own cultural identity and values. It also means that I make every effort to learn about your cultural identity and worldview, and to use culturally appropriate methods that are respectful of your values, beliefs and goals.

It takes courage to seek counseling and I would be honored to work with you.

Online counseling, sometimes called teletherapy, refers to talk therapy delivered remotely through digital platforms, such as video calls, phone calls, or chat. It can be a great option for people who face barriers to traditional face-to-face therapy, such as those living in remote areas, individuals with mobility issues, or people with busy schedules that make it difficult to attend in-person sessions.

Teletherapy also offers greater convenience and flexibility, allowing clients to access care from the comfort of their homes. Research shows that the treatment outcomes with online counseling are often just as effective as with traditional therapy, providing a viable alternative for individuals seeking mental health support.
