More about Kevin

  • 20 years' experience
  • Male
  • LCSW, LICSW

My name is Kevin Farrell and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in California (#22616). I have almost 20 years experience as a Clinical Social Worker and Psychotherapist. I previously had a successful career in media and in my mid-30s I returned to school to obtain a Masters Degree in Social Work in order to find a more rewarding career path for myself. As a Psychotherapist, I have worked with a wide variety of adults and I use a range of therapeutic tools. I view therapy as a partnership and for me the most important aspect of therapy is the therapeutic alliance, which refers to the quality and strength of the collaborative relationship between client and therapist. This is strongest when there is agreement on goals and objectives. I work closely with each client to establish goals and achieve a strong alliance built on mutual trust.

I utilize an eclectic approach to therapy with reliance on core theoretical concepts from Psychodynamic Psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Existential Therapy, among others. I tend to emphasize solution-focused strategies that assist a client in understanding themselves, improving their problem-solving/coping techniques, and building resiliency for future challenges. I seek ongoing feedback and collaboration with clients to evaluate and improve a client's experience in therapy.

I have been told that my non-judgmental style engages people and they find me respectful, sincere, and easy to relate to. My primary goal with clients is to successfully address a client's challenges in order to improve overall quality of life.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

Kevin is the kind of guy who should have a famous book. He carries the earnestness, depth, and wisdom of someone who has seen the worst, along with the sweetness, humor, and strength of someone who's decided not only to forge ahead but to make it count. He's sensitive, passionate about his work, and effortlessly cool. More than once he's changed my life with a turn of phrase. The 35+ sessions I've been lucky enough to have with Kevin have become foundational to the rest of my life. He helped me not only through a crisis, but also to get to the core forces of my identity, and to bring a better self to the people around me.

I have been working with Kevin for the past year. In that time we have been able to tap into some core infrastructural familial issues I face. Having begun these sessions outside of a crisis time, Kevin an I are able to explore, with minimal anxiety and judgment, the many aspects of my emotional history and ways I relate to individuals in my life from a more objective manner. Kevin has provided a powerful third party outlook, kind understanding and has a keen perception that prompts thoughtful questions to further our work together. I highly recommend Kevin as a therapist for folks looking to tackle overarching themes in their lives or facing nuanced crisis. He is especially understanding and can relate deeply to those who identify as or are a part of the LGBTQIA+ community.

Kevin has without a doubt completely restored my faith in therapy (and possibly humanity) and has already transformed my life for the better, his professionalism and expertise is second to none, he frequently challenges my thinking and thought process and regularly provides me with a safe space to delve into the more deeper recesses of my mind to discuss difficult topics/experiences and I feel consistently seen & heard. Often I find myself leaving each session a little more happier, healthier and above all a more realised and understood version of myself with a bit more mental fortitude.
