More about Paul

Hello!

My name is Paul Andrew Germany. I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Texas. I have over 15 years of experience in the mental health field and have worked with people from teens to seniors of differing back grounds, cultures, beliefs, and life choices. The majority of my career I have been employed by UTMB-CMC as a Mental Health Clinician.

I can’t remember a time when I was not fascinated and intrigued by the subject of psychology and mental health; and it remains one of my passions to this day. I pursued my BA in psychology from the University of Texas at Austin and continued my post-graduate studies in clinical psychology at Stephen F. Austin State University earning my MA. While working in the field full-time I continued to enroll in advanced counseling courses and exceeded the state’s criteria to become a License Professional Counselor. With years of continuing education and the motivation to be most effective counselor possible, I have stayed up to date with emerging theories, evidence-based techniques, and am proficient in many counseling methods. My counseling style is tailored to the individual with whom I’m working, however, I treat all with compassion, empathy and respect.

The techniques I tend to utilize most often are those that have shown to be most effective. They include Cognitive Behavioral, Client Centered, Solution Focused, and Mindfulness Based Therapies. However, this again is dependent upon the issues we are addressing and goals you wish to achieve. I have experience treating individuals and groups with a wide range of mental health issues. From life coaching to treating patients with chronic mental health disorders in an inpatient setting, from agoraphobia to trichotillomania, there are only a few areas out of my wheelhouse. In those rare cases, I would work just as hard helping you find a therapist better suited to your needs. Whether you are seeking help for a severe issue and require long term therapy or you are just wanting an old school psychodynamic experience with a warm and non-judgmental ear to listen, I’m here.

I commend you for taking this first step towards a better you; now let’s get to work.

Paul has been my therapist for about 8 months now. When I began therapy with him I had very debilitating anxiety and obsessive thoughts and cumpulsions that were negatively impacting my work, studies and personal life. Paul taught me skills to challenge anxious and obsessive thoughts which helped me tremendously. I felt it was very easy to speak to Paul about complex issues as he is a great, non judgemental listener but is also very knowledgeable and experienced in his field. I really appreciate all the support throughout the months, and would definitely recommend Paul as a therapist.

Paul is very responsive and is a good listener. He’s good about not just telling you what you want to hear but what you need to hear. Paul also has recommended several videos, books and other references to further help as that’s something I’ve expressed an interest in (doing my own reading/research/growth). I have been seeing Paul since April. On the questioner when looking for a therapist, I specifically said, someone who doesn’t get easily offended by colorful language. He has been the perfect fit! I have felt as I was being judged by previous therapist in trying to express my self and he totally does not and has not me made me feel “judged.” He is also able to see past the “norm” and accepts you as you are wheee you are at, which is amazing. 50,000 stars!!

Reviewed June 2022

I have tried therapy several times and never felt like I was safe enough to be really honest, until Paul. He hears what I’m trying to say even when I have a hard time articulating it. He makes me feel so validated in whatever I am feeling. I feel more myself than I have in years and Paul has been a key part of that shift for me. I would recommend him a thousand times over, but just make sure there is still a weekly spot left for me!

I can’t express enough about what an amazing therapist Paul is! he has given me insight and prospective on situations / areas of my life I was blind to. I’ve never felt judged or misunderstood even with some of my craziest situations. He’s listened to my endless voice messages of difficult moments in my life while continuing with to provide guidance, hold space, and revisit or dive deeper when needed! I appreciate his work immensely and I can’t imagine having a different therapist!

It's important for me to work with someone who knows what they are taking about and Paul certainly knows his stuff. I reached out to Better Help as I was struggling with what has turned out to be a number of things. I was "matched" within an hour with Paul Germany and was able to get an appointment for the very next day. I had no idea what to expect, but he did a great job making me feel at ease during the very first session. We are just three sessions in, but I feel like he's really opened my eyes to some things I wasn't able to clearly see before. He's done an amazing job at helping me to cut through a lot of distractions to see what the issues truly are as well as provide some concrete and practical tools to try to help me through the issues I'm facing. Paul has done a great job with providing me with exercises (as I'm someone who wants to do some exploration on my own too) that he then has talked through with me. The ability to check-in via messaging between sessions has been amazing. Even just three weeks in, I can already feel the difference and am incredibly grateful for his help.

Reviewed September 2021

Paul Germany is a very down to earth chilled guy which I like as I’d feel more awkward with counsellors who are too formal and clinical. However his ability to untangle the knot you struggle to untangle by yourself is very insightful and professional. He is like having an objective friend who is on your side cheering, who happens to be very good at what he does, instead of your other friends who may not know how to help you even if they wanted to, and in-real-life friends and family sometimes give you bad advise as they are too involved in your life.

Reviewed September 2021

I really appreciate how affordable this company is. I had to wait 3 months with my insurance to see a therapist. In a time of crisis in my life, I knew that was not acceptable. I'm really grateful for my counselor Paul. He's really easy going and easy to talk to. I really don't think he understands how important he is in my life right now. I can feel myself healing from the inside out and it makes me wonder why I didn't start sooner. Thank you Paul if you are reading this.
