MEET OUR THERAPIST: CHRISTINE HUFFAKER

Throughout difficult years in my own mental health journey, I developed a growing passion for supporting others with their mental health from a place of empathy and understanding. I have always had a passion for sitting with others in both moments of joy and sorrow and honoring both spaces.

I approach counseling with a genuine understanding of what it feels like to struggle silently with mental health and feel alone in the process. Out of my own time in counseling, I developed sincere belief in the therapeutic process.

During my clinical experience as a masters counseling student through Indiana Wesleyan University, I have gained experience working with children, adolescents, young adults, and adults on a wide range of topics including anxiety, depression, grief, and anger management. My approach to counseling is rooted in person-centered care and the belief that clients are always the experts of their own lives.

Above all, I strive to create a safe and nonjudgmental space for all clients characterized by compassion and acceptance. I believe deeply in the power of self compassion and the practice of attuning to our own emotions without shame.

Topics of interest and possible future areas of specialization include: counseling work with teens and young adults, couples counseling, sexual functioning, obsessive compulsive disorder, and anxiety.

Reaching out takes great courage, and I look forward to celebrating that victory with you in our first session!

Sincerely,

Christine Huffaker

Jennifer, Jennifer, Jennifer, what can I say about this experience ? Other than in one session she gave me food for thought that has stuck with me, in such a cool and casual manner that never felt like a teacher to a student. She helped me to identify feelings that I never thought I was feeling. In such a calm and loving manner with such a great sense of humour. She feels like a great friend that you have always gone to and have been waiting to chat to. She listens so actively that she could teach a course. If you are seeking a therapist that you can feel is invested in you, Jennifer is your gal!

My weekly "dates" with Jennifer quickly became one of the few things I looked forward to every week even when she makes me do things I did not have fun doing... but were necessary steps in the process. I am very grateful for her continuous support and help and she has been key to my happiness! <3

Jennifer is the best! She helped me understand and create my goals, which were previously intense and confusing to me. I have gained clarity through out our sessions. I am grateful for her energy and wisdom. She created a safe and comforting space for me to experience my emotions, and always asked me the perfect questions. I appreciate that she sent me resourceful links and checked on me between sessions. I felt supported the entire time. :-)

Truly an amazing counselor! I suffered from debilitating panic attacks, trauma from my past, and a phobia of driving my car; with Jennifer’s cognitive behavioral techniques and ability to listen before giving advice, I was able to over come most of what was pulling me down! If there’s ever a moment in the future where I need mental health help, I would 100% go back to her. The great thing is, she’s down to earth, but also knows what she’s talking about! I do think sometimes it’s a little deeper than what we think… and going to her helped me sort through, not just the surface, but the deeper issues. Most importantly, I never felt judged. She was readily available whenever I sent messages, and never missed a meeting! She continuously check in and had me complete forms that helped her to get the whole picture and me to see on paper what I needed to work through! She has a gift, and is meant to do what she’s doing; helping us. Thank you for everything!

Jennifer has helped (and is helping) me so much over from our sessions. I was suffering a lot in quarantine, feeling trapped, and also struggling with my insecurities & feeling lost. Jennifer is helping me identify what I can do to help change my thinking patterns to live a happier, mentally healthier, life -- I'm so grateful for her as a therapist.
