Joe is a great listener but also asks good questions when needed. He makes sure to provide structure to our sessions while giving some room for tangents. I've enjoyed the work we've been able to do together and really appreciate the tools he's given me to process my stress/anxiety.

More about Joseph

  • 10 years' experience
  • Male
  • LCSW

I am a licensed clinical social worker who specializes in treating post-traumatic stress, substance use issues, anxiety, infidelity, phobias, and sleep problems. I also have experience developing leaders as a performance coach. My experience as a military leader and a student of the military culture uniquely equips me to work with our military veterans and their families. I have worked with hundreds of veterans and their families suffering from post-traumatic stress, substance abuse problems, secondary trauma, and other related disorders such as anxiety, grief, and loss.

My therapy style is rooted in the practice of mindfulness, experiencing the present moment with intention. I believe that anyone can learn, practice, and eventually develop trait level mindfulness, incorporating the practice into every facet of their life.

Developing these new habits of mind is key in achieving peace in one's life, in realizing the tranquility which is possible when the mind is allowed to experience feelings and thoughts, as opposed to avoidance and attempts to shut thoughts out and push them away.

I take a holistic approach to helping others, focusing not just on the problem at hand, but also on the everyday parts of life which contribute to and complicate the problems.

I use cognitive behavioral therapy modalities as well as other evidence-based practices. I believe a therapist should be a lifelong student of the field, and as such I am a voracious reader of research in the fields of health, wellness, and mental health. I don't have all of the answers, but then, that's not why I'm here. I'm here to help you find the answers to your problems, and I do so through a collaborative approach, walking side-by-side with you on this journey.

Please note that my availability on the calendar are set and accommodations outside of those hours may not be possible.

Joe has been a great resource, and helped guide me through my first time in therapy. He was very constructive in how he introduced me to goals, ways to handle my emotions and situations, and a positive and leading communicator. Less than one month into my sessions, I went through a tough breakup, and am very fortunate that I was already seeing Joe, because he was able to help me understand and process my emotions in a rational way that made a real connection with me. As he helped guide me through that, we also worked together on motivational strategies and ways to improve and stay focused on my work and social life. He never pushed me into any method, tip, etc., rather he presented what he thought would help me, explained the benefits, and allowed me to make decisions on my own. This was very helpful, and I'm grateful to have had someone act as a guide to this new territory for me, rather than telling me what is right or wrong, good or bad. I didn't have much of an expectation for what therapy would be for me, but I'm quite glad to have had Joe's help throughout, and will be keeping him front and center in my mind should I come back to therapy again.

Joe is an amazing therapist. I’ve been working with him for months now and his advice is priceless. He has really helped me work through some tough situations in my personal life and in my professional life. He’s extremely good at using his knowledge as a therapist to help me grow.

Joseph is very easy to talk to and work through some difficult things with. I appreciate his expertise in ART therapy and was surprised at how intuitive the therapist matching was. I don’t enjoy talking too much in depth about traumatizing events and this type of therapy has been ideal for me.
