More about Kay

  • 29 years' experience
  • Female
  • LPC

I have been a licensed therapist since 1992. I was first licensed in California and held a license in Louisiana for several years until I moved to Georgia. I have been an LPC in Georgia since 2002 where I am also a Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor. Over the years I have worked in Community Behavioral Health and maintained a private practice. When the Covid Pandemic forced me to work virtually I found that my clients enjoyed the ease of meeting from their homes. This method of practice also allowed me to meet with my clients at times that were most convenient to them. My clients have brought many issues to our sessions including abuse and trauma, depression, stress and anxiety, co-occurring issues, family conflicts, life transition issues, lack of self esteem and confidence as well as communication issues.

I provide a safe and validating environment where clients feel comfortable and are able to share their intimate concerns. I am non judgmental, caring and am concerned about my clients growth and happiness. I am adept at many approaches to counseling including Cognitive Behavioral, Solution Focused, Mindfulness, Trauma Focused, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Client Centered Therapy and Existential Therapy. Putting it simply, I work with you to help you find peace and happiness. Everyone deserves a fulfilling life and I would honor the opportunity to go on the journey with you.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

Kay is a warm, wise woman. She listens and offers good prompts to encourage thought and action.

Reviewed June 2022

I feel I have learned how to look at others and accept them for who they are. I’ve also had to look at my own actions and see how to calmly handle situations and also let go of things I cannot control. That may have been the hardest lesson. But listening to the suggestions and feeling heard were big things in my sessions with Dr. Ibarra. I am learning so much about letting go and simply handling things better.

Kay has been great to work with. She balances kindness and great listening skills with the ability to redirect and helping you hold yourself accountable. She has helped me to reframe my thinking, be mindful of judgment of others, placing expectations on others, and reminding me to always show up as the best version of myself. This has helped tremendously with unhealthy relationships that I have battled for a while as well as helping me define who I am and who I want to be.
