My name is Minerva M. King, LCSW, and I am a Survivor. Over a decade after earning my master’s degree with honors from Florida Atlantic University I specialize in therapies which include Rapid Trauma Resolution/Hypnosis, Rational Emotive Behavioral Therapy, Victims Services, and Certified Sex Offender Treatment, among others. I am also a Qualified Clinical Supervisor securing competency, knowledge and skill in the next generation of Social Workers. All endeavors dedicated toward the improvement of mental health wellness for a better quality of life for all who are ready to realize their potential.

For almost 15 years, prior to the Covid-19 pandemic, I serviced individuals and families, face to face in agency and individual private practice settings. Confident that I could make a greater difference in assisting survivors of the pandemic, I transitioned my delivery of services into an E-Counseling practice. Throughout my practice I’ve had the privilege of serving 1000’s of clients, and many of their families. The most rewarding outcomes in treatment began with negative narratives transitioning into the impressive development of emotional intelligence, hence allowing for newly forged positive story lines. In working with you, I utilize a strength-based approach focused on empowering mind, body and spirit. A commitment that I myself made many years ago in my journey toward healing and happiness. Change can only take place when awareness is achieved. Awareness is the key to improving understanding to self; improving relationship with others; increasing management of thoughts, emotions and behavior.

During our time together I will encourage you to engage in exercises related to the many tools and techniques discovered during our sessions. All resources I provide you are specific to your goals. All information discussed during our sessions will be private and confidential unless there is reason to believe that you, a child, elderly or others may be at risk of being harmed. You will be sharing as much or as little sensitive and intimate information with me, your therapist. throughout our sessions. Initially you may not be used to sharing your most private and intimate details with someone not personally familiar to you. It is not my role as a clinician to make judgments, give advice or force solutions. Sought care from Minerva back at the end of 2021. After feeling nervous about the care I had from a therapist back in middle school, I was iffy. But I took to Minnie like a duck to the water. She was incredibly insightful. The parts of me I never understood, she helped me better understand. That alone gave me the strength to work through my mental health. Since this review isn't just for Minnie but for people who wonder what it'll be like working with her, I'll try to give my personal experience and some thoughts about being one of her clients as well. The first thing you'll notice about Minnie is her energy. She is invested and involved in whatever you tell her, and you'll notice this right away because she tends to ask hard-hitting questions that will make you do a double take from the get-go. She laughs a lot, and won't hide her surprise, discontentment and care-- any of her emotions, really-- when it comes to hearing what you have to say. She will also be writing notes or messages usually to keep track of what you or other clients are saying, but rest assured that she's always paying attention. Be prepared for a pretty no-filter therapist as well, if you're matched with her. She will match your energy and your communication style if you're someone who prefers talk therapy or exercises to be applied in therapy (emotional processing, EMDR, so on). Sometimes you will have to be direct with her about what you'd like to receive in therapy. A majority of our sessions were simply talk therapy, but when I told her that I wished to work on application or practicing things to empower myself more, she started incorporating things like worksheets, guides and in-session emotional processing or breathing exercises. She also encouraged me to write and share journals with her frequently and often- and I'm not sure she read them in detail 100 percent of the time (because mine are basically novels haha), but she definitely showed she at least glanced through them. I personally started my sessions with her focusing on inner-child work, and you will find that this is her forte because she will always be able to find a way to circle things back to your inner child (and rightfully so). You will see her use her CBT techniques early on. I will say that as our conversations shifted more towards relationship-related therapy, I started seeing her personal views come out more. I don't mind that, but if you find you're uncomfortable hearing about personal views or with having the rapport of someone like a guardian or friend, be aware that she can use affectionate names or words to show how she cares (she called me "sweet lady" and things like that, which I don't mind but someone else might). She's still very professional, but at times she felt more like a friend than a therapist, so be aware of that as you're doing sessions with her or if that possibility makes you uncomfortable. When it comes to topics she might not be as familiar with, be prepared for her to send articles, guides or links to resources that might help you when she can't give as much advice. She might also end up seeming overwhelming with some textbook therapy jargon at the beginning, so let her know if that seems too much- she's very good at listening. She will respond to journals faster than lengthy individual text messages, so be prepared for that, too. She made it clear that she often replies to/checks messages twice or maybe three times a day, so if you're someone who wants more frequent text communication than that, keep an eye on this point. I've loved working with Minnie, and she's given me quite a few tools to focus on advocating for myself as I struggled through life, relationship and career changes. I'm someone who struggles with asserting my needs and focusing on myself, so her can-do attitude about taking care of myself was always inspiring and made me feel better. Overall, if you want someone who's fun and will give you a personal experience that is focused on untangling your inner child wounds and empowering you, Minnie definitely is for you. Thank you so so much, Minnie, for all of your energy, care, and compassion!! I love and appreciate you for every single step you've helped me take on my mental health journey and I hope our paths cross again soon.

I started counselling with Minnie to overcome issues of self-esteem, self-confidence, anxiety, depression...and some others I can't quite put my finger on at the moment. I found our sessions to be extremely helpful as she is a very patient, attentive, genuine, and understanding.
