More about Ana

  • 3 years' experience
  • Female
  • LMHC

I am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC) in the state of Florida with a Ph.D. in Linguistics. I am a Certified Clinical TeleMental Health Provider (CTMH). I also have certifications in Trauma treatment and in Mindfulness for treating stress/anxiety (Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction, MBSR) and for treating children and teens. I have a podcast Be Healthy! Be Mindful! where I discuss topics on Mental Health and Mindfulness in English and in Brazilian Portuguese.

I have experience in the treatment of trauma, PTSD, anxiety, panic attacks, depression, domestic violence, grief, abuse, ADHD, anger issues, self-esteem, and stress management.

I offer respectful culturally-sensitive counseling services in different languages to individuals, couples and families with the aim of promoting self-growth, balance, empowerment, quality of life, and well being.

I started my career as a linguist, professor and researcher. I have a Ph.D. in linguistics and I was a professor at FIU for several years. To fulfill my strong desire to help people outside the academic world, I decided to become a Mental Health Counselor. During my training I worked with victims of domestic violence, trauma, PTSD, and visited some of my clients at a shelter for domestic violence.

I also worked in Mental Health agencies where I provided mental health services to children and families within their communities. I am currently working in private practice and offering online counseling. I also write monthly articles in Portuguese on topics in Mental Health and Mindfulness to Acontece Magazine.

My practice is focused on the client's strengths and use effective techniques such as Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT), Trauma Focused CBT, MBSR, and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MCBT) to help clients improve their lives, fulfill their goals and be happier.

Online counseling, sometimes called teletherapy, refers to talk therapy delivered remotely through digital platforms, such as video calls, phone calls, or chat. It can be a great option for people who face barriers to traditional face-to-face therapy, such as those living in remote areas, individuals with mobility issues, or people with busy schedules that make it difficult to attend in-person sessions.

Teletherapy also offers greater convenience and flexibility, allowing clients to access care from the comfort of their homes. Research shows that the treatment outcomes with online counseling are often just as effective as with traditional therapy, providing a viable alternative for individuals seeking mental health support.
