I’m a Clinical Social Worker, licensed in Colorado. I’ve been in the field of mental health counseling for over 40 years (I can hardly believe this!) and work with young adults, adults and seniors. My experience has been in both inpatient psychiatric hospitals and outpatient settings. I love my work and feel blessed to have found it. My specialty is work with seniors, particularly in addressing the many changes that come with aging — including loss, relationship changes, coping with health, etc.

I strongly believe that the client is the “boss” in therapy. You are hiring me to help you. Together, we identify the problem(s) you are presenting and the goals to help alleviate those problems. I am honest, forthright, warm and caring. While you are who will help you get better, I will be there to support you. My treatment approaches are varied. - I like to say that I use “whatever works”, whether that is insight oriented therapy, mindfulness, behavioral, grief work, etc.

Barbara's been a really wonderful therapist--she's helped me during two different significant times/events and she does a great job of both listening and also encouraging me to think about the rationale and root cause of what I'm feeling and why. The second time I sought out her help, after the death of a family member, I was actually really surprised to see--talking through things--how much emotional intelligence I had retained from the previous time she worked with me and how resilient I was in healing thanks to that.

I was extremely hesitant about therapy as I have had it before and never felt any progress. About a year ago I realized that it was time to take care of my mental and emotional health, and that I needed to try therapy again. I was paired with Barbara Pettibone and have been speaking with her weekly for the last year. My family and friends have all noticed a change in me and I owe a lot of that to Barbara. She allows a safe space with encouragement, challenges and has no hesitation on being able to address the issues that are not talked about, but what she is able to observe. I have enjoyed speaking with her because it is nice to know that I can talk about things, but I am receiving honest feedback - even if I don't always like it. It has helped me grow and deal with childhood and adult trauma in more ways than any other therapist I have had. Her patience, guidance, flexibility, ability to be direct, yet understanding, and observations are excellent. I feel if you are willing to do your part and put in the effort, Barbara Pettibone will help you in your journey to a better mental and emotional space. Starting therapy was something I had in mind for a while. I know a lot of people struggle with picking the right therapist to interact and connect with. I, on the other hand, got very lucky with having Barbara as my therapist. She was the first one suggested and I’m so happy I got the opportunity to connect with her. She created a safe space for me to be able to open up and talk about what I needed to let out. At no point ever in our sessions did I ever feel judged or shamed, the follow up questions she’d give me really opened my mind to really think about different perspectives and outlooks on certain situations/event. Barbara was very engaging and helpful with her comments and suggestions. The resources shed offer (worksheets) were very helpful as well and was a good way to continue therapy sessions outside of our video calls. With that said, her communication with me was appreciated, I’d write down whatever I needed to and she was good with responding back as soon as she could. I really appreciate the time and respect she gives in our sessions.

I worked with Barbra for 5 months, and it has helped me a lot. Talking to her feels like talking to a good friend that always knows what to say. I did miss a spesific plan for progress sometimes, as her work is more focused on working with the topics that were relevant to the week or the session. We talked about whatever I felt was most pressing in the moment. This way of working was new to me, but it helped me a lot. She got a thorough understanding of my backround, and helped me understand how my pervious expiriences have affected me.
