More about Peter

  • 35 years' experience

  • LCSW

Hello! I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and hold active licenses in California, Pennsylvania, and North Dakota. I have more than 30 years of experience helping people in a variety of settings, from Employee Assistance (EAP) to Outpatient Mental Health and Drug and Alcohol. In addition to my counseling experience, I have been a clinical supervisor and trainer of therapists. I am also a Certified Grief Counseling Specialist.

Congratulations for taking this brave first step to find support, and to make positive changes in your life! I offer individual counseling for adults, 21 and up, who live in California, Pennsylvania, or North Dakota. I have a supportive, conversational style. We will start wherever you “are” in your life. I see my role as a guide who will help you consider your choices, to examine the consequences of changing versus not changing behaviors or circumstances, to set meaningful goals, and to support your decisions.

In uncertain, stressful times, it is easy to get overwhelmed and “stuck,” but I believe there is always “the one thing” a person can do to take meaningful action. While I agree that knowing “why” we behave in certain ways can be useful, I do feel that people seek out counseling to “move beyond.” I believe that YOU are the expert on you, and I will encourage you to take the next steps to improve your life.

Online counseling, sometimes called teletherapy, refers to talk therapy delivered remotely through digital platforms, such as video calls, phone calls, or chat. It can be a great option for people who face barriers to traditional face-to-face therapy, such as those living in remote areas, individuals with mobility issues, or people with busy schedules that make it difficult to attend in-person sessions.

Teletherapy also offers greater convenience and flexibility, allowing clients to access care from the comfort of their homes. Research shows that the treatment outcomes with online counseling are often just as effective as with traditional therapy, providing a viable alternative for individuals seeking mental health support.

Peter is a gift to the therapy community. As his sessions might feel brief sometimes, it’s only because he knows what to really narrow down on and give clear advice. Great listener and supportive and knows when to give you advice to stop and think twice about your situation. He’s open my eyes quite a few times and has a calmness and coolness about him that I look forward to speaking with each week.

Peter Jastermsky is a very hands-on therapist. He listens extremely carefully and reviews anything you write. In sessions, Peter captures both the details of what you're going through, and also the general vibe of how it's playing out for you. He is not afraid to weigh in on your situation, sometimes using very definite language that cuts through the crap. I feel with peter like I really have someone in my corner who helps me read the situation in front of me, identify my options, and keep me on track with my own self improvement. He's absolutely the therapist you want if you are facing a difficult situation at your job. Expect to put in some self-work, and expect things to get better pretty much right away.
