Hello! You may not know me yet, but I'm looking forward to getting to know you.

I use a change-oriented approach with a bent toward meaning-making and "the big questions" of life.

I don't think BetterHelp really has the tools to do in-depth therapy work, so I tend to like to focus on either 1) listening and/or 2) advice. It depends on what you’re needing in the moment. Would you like me to listen, or would you like me to provide feedback/opinions/advice?

I'd like for you to get some relief and clarity in your life. Whatever your goals, or the life transitions you want to better understand, I can help you, regardless of your culture, your background, your politics, philosophy, or past.

(Note: I am also an ordained clergyperson with a Master of Divinity MDiv degree, and a hospice chaplain.

Faith/religion/spirituality or no, if you want to integrate that into our talks, great. If not, also great. I'm well-versed in many religions and philosophical approaches to existence, including earth-based and "alternative" belief systems, e.g., TST.)

Alexander Yoo, MDiv, MA, LMFT

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

I signed up for this app with quite a bit of trepidation. Rev. Yoo alleviated my concerns and skepticism with his professionalism, thoughtfulness, genuine concern for my mental healthy, and his ability to talk to me like a “real person” and not so clinical. Great therapist, I highly recommend him.

I like Rev Yoo as my therapist he is good in making me feel comfortable to be open about anything, I can tell him anything, I like that he understand what I’m going through and I can feel that he is there to help me cope up, i look forward to my video session with him because I always feel better after. I would like to continue working with him until I know I’m better and maybe even if I’m already healed. Thank you Rev Yoo.

Understanding that this is my first experience with professional counseling, Alexander laid the groundwork and expectations with me where I felt listened to from day 1. He was patient with me when I let my emotions rush over me when diving into hard parts of my history. My vulnerability felt validated and he followed that with sobering thoughts and pieces of wisdom to reframe my ill-conceived tendencies and behaviors. I highly recommend him for issues regarding previous trauma, and performance anxiety, among others. He is kind, empathetic, and is an example of working in the service of others.

Rev. Yoo is a patient, caring and professional expert. I have been doing psychotherapy with Rev. Yoo almost 5 months now, and I initially thought male therapists are not trustworthy and authoritative because of my past experience with a male counselor, but he really changed my mind and I really appreciate that. I want you to know if you're finding a therapist who is sensitive with LGBTQ+ issues, Rev. Yoo is the one.

Reviewed May 2020

Rev. Yoo has been helping me work through my triggers and pain from the past. I feel he listens and affirms while also helping me with my perspective. As a person of faith, he points me toward God and helps me step back and see the bigger picture while also addressing specific situations with guidance and solutions. I am thankful to have the remote counseling during this time.

We've just started and there's a lot to cover with all my things. So, we haven't really gotten to the matter of it all, but he's been great so far. He listens. Seems to understand, but he hasn't really been given a chance to do much, outside of listen. So far, so good. He seems like a great person.

Reviewed May 2020

Reviewed May 2020

Rev. Yoo has been an absolutely lifesaver. I feel like I can confide in him and that he actually listens to what I’m saying. If I don’t message in a few days he checks up on me and I really appreciate that.

Reviewed April 2020

Rev. Yoo was the perfect therapist for me. He helped me to dig deeper into something I didn’t think I could break through into and offered me helpful and appropriate suggestions to try and questions to think about. He helped me to arrive at solutions and pointed them out to me in unique ways. I especially appreciated him connecting what I was going through back to God and my faith; not everyone does that and that’s something I was looking for. Only great things to say! It’s been awesome and would love to continue as long as I can/need.

Reviewed March 2020

Rev. Yoo helps me and listens to me and understands the issues that I have.

Reviewed February 2020

He genuinely seems to listen and care about the things that I expressed. When I am hesitant to respond he checks on me and that makes me feel like he cares about what I’m going through. His advice is great and I love the worksheets he recommends. So far, I am very happy with the relationship we are building.

Reviewed January 2020

Rev. Yoo is kind, understanding, and a beam of light in a hurricane. If you’re lost, confused, hurt, don’t be afraid of getting therapy from him. He’s the best thing that happened.
