Hello and welcome! My name is Leah Finn. I am a marriage and family therapist based out of the San Francisco Bay Area and licensed in California. My goal is to help you achieve your goals.

Since 2010, I have worked with clients from a variety of backgrounds and life experiences to effectively manage and cope with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, and relationship issues. I have also helped many people who have experienced trauma, emotional abuse, and/or disability. In 2018, I founded Healing Solutions Psychotherapy. My counseling style is warm, interactive, and nonjudgmental.

I provide an environment for you to feel safe to explore fears, concerns, and your deepest desires for creating the life that you want. I use a strength-based approach that combines mindfulness with cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, narrative, solution-focused, and psychodynamic therapies. I have a Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from John F. Kennedy University, and I practice under the laws of California.

I believe in treating you with respect, empathy, sensitivity, and compassion. Prior to becoming a therapist, I worked as a community organizer for social, racial, and economic justice. My background includes extensive training in anti-oppression work, looking at how race, class, gender, sexuality, and ability overlap and shape our lived experience. I will tailor our work together to meet your unique and specific needs.

I specialize in working with LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual, and agender) individuals and families. I am committed to providing culturally competent, sex positive counseling, particularly with people who identify as polyamorous and people who are a part of the kink community. I am also certified as a domestic violence counselor with 48 hours of LGBT-specialized training.

It takes courage to seek a more fulfilling, happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. If you are ready to take that step, I am here to support and empower you. You have the right to feel heard, understood, whole, and complete. You deserve to be your best self.

I look forward to learning more about you!

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

Leah is exceptionally warm, genuine, and creates a real sense of safety and security with her presence. She is an incredible listener - both to the ins and outs of life, and about what I wanted to get out of therapy and how I thought I might get there. Her empowerment model leaves me with tools, skills, and mantras that are all my own, created ways to cope healthily. She often used the metaphor that she is just holding up a mirror, guiding me through my process where I am doing all of the work. I am extremely grateful for how my time working with Leah has strengthened my sense of self, and empowered me to meet my therapeutic goals.

She's so nice. It's really nice to talk to a therapist who is empathetic. Having someone who has grappled with their gender as a therapist has been refreshing. So far I feel that I am being seen as an individual and am being given a lot of ways to learn and grow emotionally.

I have found comfort and understanding with Leah, I feel validated and understood and like I am moving in the right direction with someone by me who can help.

Leah is a genuinely caring person and I would recommend her to everyone. It’s apparent that she wants to help find solutions by the way she responds and the variety of techniques she offers. I tend to be a shy person and struggle reaching out for help, but Leah’s warm presence makes it comfortable and safe to ask for help.

Leah has been so helpful to my well being. She is patient, attentive, and a great guide through the journey of mental health. She responds via message more often than I would've imagined and with such thorough feedback. Our sessions go by very quickly which is to say that we get a lot done. For context this is my second therapist and the first through any online platform.

I’ve only been working with Leah for a short period, but already I feel I’ve connected on a level with her than I have with most of my therapist in the past. She has helped me feel heard and not alone and is teaching me to be more compassionate with my shortcomings or downfalls and encourages me to keep trying. I’m excited for our future sessions to come.

Reviewed May 2020

Leah really listens and empathizes in my issues and sets great goals and very responsive to messages.

I have had only one appointment with Ms. Finn, but she has already impressed me in that first interview with her understanding on many levels of my feelings, actions and concerns. The session closed with my belief that I would be supported as we continue this "journey" and will learn life lessons that I may have forgotten.

Leah has changed my life like no other therapist has, and I think it’s the combo of her and the medium of BetterHelp. She is my cheerleader but also makes me do the hardworking. The proof is in the pudding: I’m in the first healthy relationship of my life after only 6 months with her. I am not kidding when I say she changed my life.

Reviewed February 2020

Leah has been very responsive and she has helped me tremendously as I navigate some really tough situations.

Reviewed January 2020

Leah has been such an excellent support. She is knowledgeable, insightful and always present. She gives highly useful feedback, and I feel like she is able to meet me where I am emotionally and help me work on the things that are most important.

Reviewed November 2019

Leah is an incredible counselor. She is open-minded, which is a characteristic I have a difficult time finding in individuals. She listens to my concerns and doesn’t blame me for past mistakes. She helps me think of ways to deal with future issues and helps me think about things in a more positive manner. I’ve been feeling like a better version of myself since beginning therapy, and I know a lot of the reason is because of Leah.

Leah Finn is an excellent therapist! She is there every step of the way, and provides multiple avenues for you to safely escape negative feelings like anxiety and depression. I don't know anyone in my immediate community that has ever sought mental well-being through therapy, so I thought it to be a drastic option. The fact that I decided to give this a try is a testament to the horrible place I was in. Within a couple of months, Leah guided through various exercises to overcome several mental blocks. I am doing much better now, but when these low feelings start to come back I have skills to cope and keep them at bay. Would definitely recommend working with Leah!

I recently started therapy with Leah- to say she is great would be an understatement. She messages to check in on how I am doing/feeling a few days after our video chat as well. It is really easy to talk to her without feeling judged or looked down upon- she has a lot of tips on how I can better communicate with others and has even got me into meditation. I've told a few friends about how great my sessions are with her- everyone says I'm really lucky because finding a good therapist you mesh with is hard to find :) Totally recommend :)

I've been working with Leah for a few months now, and she's absolutely amazing. I've never had such a successful relationship with a counselor/therapist in my years of searching for one. I have a lot of issues with trauma and am very slow to trust, but felt safe with her right away. She has a super open mind and a goal-oriented approach to therapy, which I love. She also makes sure to check in with me via message, which I deeply appreciate. :)

Leah has been a true guide on my path, keeping motivated when I'm depressed and focused when I feel lost and all over the place. I've had sessions with other counselors and never found any chemistry and better help is a godsend for bringing us together. The way she goes about bringing me to solutions can be so subtle and powerful that I don't always realize she's guiding me to the answer until I feel like I've come it on my own and that is truly something special. Thank you, Leah for all your hard work and faith in me. It's only been 6 months and I've already come so far.
