"Falling down is a part of life, getting back up is living." - anonymous

We all fall down from time to time. It takes courage to seek help and support during those times when we have difficulty getting back up. I commend you for taking the first step.

I am a Marriage and Family Therapist licensed in California. I have a Masters Degree in Counseling Psychology and have been working in this field for over 12 years. I initially made this career choice because I wanted to learn how to help myself and my family. I discovered I had a real passion and talent for connecting with and understanding others.

I am currently working with military service members and their families. I have experience working with depression, anxiety, stress, relationship issues, anger management, communication difficulties and parenting. I also have experience working with trauma and abuse.

My counseling style is very warm and empathetic. I believe in treating everyone with respect and being non-judgmental. I utilize a combination of cognitive behavioral, humanistic and psychodynamic modalities, with a focus on unconditional positive regard. I will work with you to identify your strengths and tailor treatment to meet your specific needs.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

I am grateful for Amy… I started counseling at 49 years old and never thought I “needed counseling” but I’ve have learned so much about myself thanks to Amy‘s guidance. I am a strong woman and I have never felt like I needed to share my business with anyone because for the most part I had it together. I was raised that counseling was for people who had something wrong with them and people who were mentally strong didn’t need counseling. Absolutely ridiculous because I found out so much about myself since I’ve gone to counseling. Now I am raising daughters who understand the importance of taking care of your mental health. I think betterhelp is a great way for people to get started into counseling whether you are either intimidated, too prideful or like me too busy to do counseling. This is life changing...even if you think you don’t need it I say just do it so you can learn about yourself and live your better life.

Amy is amazing. I've never had a counselor before, so I was a little scared to divulge intimate details about myself. I feel safe with, and understood by her. She's gentle with her responses, which makes telling her my life very easy. I highly recommend her! :)

I really enjoy working with Amy because she is non-judgmental and gentle in how she provides guidance. It feels like she is really listening, and she has thoughtful comments on how to get through the tough times. I also like that she doesn't always have to be right; if I disagree with her, she's open to talking about it and figuring out what works best for me.

Reviewed June 2016

She is really understanding and kind. I am still at the beginning but I am hopeful that it will work out.

Reviewed June 2016

Amy is a great listener and she really makes me feel heard. But she also challenges me to see things from my partner's point of view; really helps me better understand things from different views. It's so nice to have someone to confide in with no judgement!

Reviewed April 2016

Amy actually listens to what you write and pays careful attention!

Reviewed February 2016

Although I have only worked with Amy for a week, she has proven to be compassionate, gentle, and nonjudgmental in her approach. It's clear that she puts great thought and care into her responses. Whenever I become particularly negative, she is able to redirect my flow of thoughts into more positive and self-affirming territory. I appreciate that she asks probing questions to try to get at the heart of my issues, and I also appreciate that she provides some type of homework, whether that be adopting relaxation techniques or writing down a list of things that provide me with pleasure. She also remembers what she's asked me to do in prior sessions and holds me accountable. Other therapists I have seen in the past would sometimes forget what we discussed, which didn't give me much confidence in their leadership. Although I recognize that the patient is largely responsible for directing the conversation, every captain must also have a helmsman! I would recommend Amy to anyone in need of emotional support through life's tribulations, whether they be minor hiccups or deep psychological wounds from childhood. Online therapy may not provide a face to look at, but make no mistake--in the right hands, this works!
