More about David

  • 40 years' experience
  • Male
  • LICSW

I am a licensed clinical social worker in Washington State and have worked in community mental health for 53 years, 43 of which I have done direct clinical work with people. My experience includes working with individuals with a wide variety of conditions and include, among others, depression, anxiety, trauma, abuse, grief and loss identity issues, relationships concerns, and major psychiatric disorders.

I love seeing people change, grow, and learn to help in healing themselves over time. I believe in the dignity of each person and strive to treat everyone with respect and unconditional acceptance. My philosophy is that each person seeking help is an expert on their own condition and my role as therapist is to help elicit and guide them toward their individual goals. While I consider myself a strengths-based and client-centered therapist, as well as incorporating other treatment modalities, such as cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, solution-focused therapy, among others, I believe that a strong, supportive, trusting professional relationship is the main factor in helping people achieve positive change.

I believe that good mental and emotional health is crucial for all of us and I aim to honor each and every person I work with in providing them with compassion and empathetic care, while assisting them in their healing process. I also think that when people practice and work on their issues as well as attend and participate in their therapy sessions consistently, they enhance their ability to reach their goals.

It is convenient for those who may have trouble getting to or would prefer not to have in-person therapy appointments. Starting at $65 per week, online counseling is generally more affordable than in-person counseling. A study by researchers at University of California, Berkeley found that online counseling can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy while being more convenient, affordable, and accessible.

David has been a huge help for me during my depressed periods. David listens clearly and instead of asking us to try something, he let us make that decision for ourselves. He has made a silent yet astounding revolution in my mind set. I'll always be grateful to have had the change to get therapy from such an experienced and kind person. The therapy goes into the fondest memories in my life book. Highly recommend him!

David was a knowledgeable and experienced professional. He tried to learn about me and my concerns before our first session and was patient and empathetic throughout the sessions. We would discuss my concerns and areas I’d like to focus on and establish a plan that is easy to follow through. He is always on time. His understanding of my needs for counseling was very good and he provided the guidance I needed. Thank you, David!

I am thankful for the opportunity to have worked with David. Coming into therapy again I was concerned that I wasn’t doing enough, that I’m part of the problem and pretty much any or all negative thinking associated with anything. In the past 6 weeks we revealed together that I am in a better place than I thought. I simply needed a boost, a reminder if you will, of the tools I do have under my belt and practicing these tools with a licensed therapist. THANK YOU!!

I really appreciated David's help these last few weeks. I deeply appreciate the way that he listens, the questions that he asks, and the sincere empathy and kindness he always showed me. Genuinely a wonderful human being. The way he explained some of the neuroscience, the thoughtful questions he asked, really helped me be able to deal with my problems better. He often asked questions of me that helped me consider a situation differently, and find my way to different and better solutions instead of just feeling stuck. I was also very happy with how goals and solution-focused David was. We started off our counseling with specific goals, and we kept touching back on those, as well as set new goals every week (be mindful about escalating behaviors, trying a different coping technique). I would highly recommend David, and when I find myself in need of a therapist again, I will certainly try and seek David out again.
