Hello! I am a licensed professional counselor licensed in Texas with over 15 years of experience working as a therapist. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, bipolar, schizophrenia, PTSD, relationship issues, parenting problems, career challenges, OCD and ADHD. I have also helped many people who have experienced physical trauma or emotional abuse. I have experience working with adults, adolescents, couples, and families in both individual and group sessions. The settings I have worked in include, inpatient hospitals, inpatient and outpatient substance use disorder treatment facilities, community mental health clinics, schools, wilderness challenge camps, school campuses, and correctional facilities.

After hours, I spend a great deal of time volunteering in the community. I have focused a great deal of hours helping veterans via groups and individual counseling, as well as, PTSD awareness campaigns. I have also spent a great deal of time working with local and state mental health advocacy programs such as NAMI, Behavioral Health Advisory Council and many others.

My counseling style is warm, interactive, and laid back. I listen. I believe in treating anyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, humanistic, cognitive processing therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, mindfulness, and rational-emotive counseling. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs. My primary motivation is to help facilitate changes in behaviors based upon the client's needs and goals. I have worked with a range of clientele from strongly motivated to very resistant. The foundation is creating a therapeutic alliance and setting a pace toward client independence. Seeing the potential in each of my clients is great, but helping you see your own potential is beautiful.

It takes courage to seek for a more fulfilling and happier life and to take the first steps towards a change. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you.

I look forward to working with you!

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

I have had an extremely eye opening therapy experience with Valerie! I've been able to reflect on my habitual patterns and make necessary changes for an overall improved life and better wellbeing! I have made a lot of progress and seem to be feeling more empowered along the way as well!

Valerie has been extremely helpful for me. Something that I've noticed about her, that I've loved, is that she remembers things. It can be the smallest thing I've mentioned, and she remembers and will bring it up before I have to again. She is a wonderful listener and really helps me put things into perspective. When I began with her July of 2021, I was a wreck. Now, almost 8 months later, I feel like a brand new person. I have so much work left to do, but she has been so so wonderful. I would recommend her to anyone!
