More about Douglas

  • 26 years' experience

Hello, my name is Douglas and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in the state of Texas. In addition to being an LPC I am certified to supervise (LPC-S) Licensed Professional Counselor Interns. I am also a member of the National Honor Society in Psychology and I have over 24 years experience working with individuals, couples and groups.

I believe in the power of the individual ~ in the individual’s creativity, courage, choice, free will, and desire to become better. I believe people make choices about themselves, others and the world, and set goals for their lives based on their perceptions of reality. Sometimes these perceptions are distorted and discouraging. Counseling aids individuals in discovering and recognizing their distorted views, in developing more effective ways to reach their goals, and in decreasing their discouragement.

My counseling style is warm and interactive. I believe in treating everyone with respect, sensitivity, and compassion, and I don't believe in stigmatizing labels. My approach combines cognitive-behavioral, solution based and emotional interviewing therapies. I will tailor our dialog and treatment plan to meet your unique and specific needs.

The therapy process is a cooperative effort between the individual and the counselor where each assumes an active and responsible role in that process. I will contribute my knowledge and expertise to assist you in gaining insight and making educated choices, I will provide you with experiences in which to test those choices, and I will support you with encouragement, patience, and optimism. You will contribute your personal knowledge, your commitment to explore yourself and your beliefs honestly.

Thank you for taking the time to read my profile! I look forward to talking with you and assisting you in achieving your goals.

I’m a writer, but still, I’m colossally struggling to put my year-long therapy experience into words. The long story short: Doug saved my life. Or if that seems too hyperbolic—he, at least, saved my quality of life. Starting therapy for a self-proclaimed control freak is unnerving. I was full of doubt and skepticism but just desperate enough to give it a go. From the very first moment of our very first session, Doug showed me I was in the right place. He built me up, he calmed me down, he challenged me, and he provided the calm consistency I needed. Now, I have the skills I need to do those things for myself. He helped me find my own worth. He showed me how to choose happiness in a world that is very imperfect. He never shied away from the gut-wrenching stuff. I’m eternally grateful for Doug, his heart, and his counsel.

I am grateful for Douglas and I really like that he listens to my concerns. I believe he understands that I’m going through and he knows what he is talking about.

Doug has been the most amazing counselor/therapist. I was at my breaking point, contemplating on taking my own life because of uncontrolled depression and anxiety and PTSD. Doug has pulled me out of that dark place and I am my own self again! Working with him weekly for 8-9 months working on ways to control anxiety, set boundaries and let go of things that haunted me has changed my life. Without Doug, I wouldn’t be standing here! I owe him my life. He is kind, understanding, always there when you need him. He is a Godly man which I also love that I can talk to him about my faith and prayer and my relationship with God. Thank you Doug for always believing in me!

I really enjoy my sessions with Douglas. Sometimes when he ask me a question the way he asks makes me understand my answer more(idk if that makes sense) lol. I really look forward to the assignments that’s given at the end of each session. The assignments really gets me more in tune with myself and how I respond to situations and those around me. This chapter in my life is called REbirth and I’m glad to have Douglas on this journey.

I’ve been in therapy for years and have learned more from working with Doug in a few months than in all those years combined. He’s compassionate, patient, responsive and does the work because he loves helping people. I’ve been able to manage my anxiety and depression in a whole new way since he began treating me. I’ll be forever grateful for the tools he’s shown me and the way he’s helping me manage life’s greatest challenges.

He straight away realised what my issues are and gave me the attention that I needed and the steps to work with my emotions. At the beginning I could not even believe how much my view of life has changed after a few short conversations we had. I will always be grateful to Doug, for all the tools I now have to cope with my feelings. I cannot say enough about how much my life has changed since I started counseling with Douglas.
