Hi! I am a licensed professional counselor and mental health service provider with twenty years experience. My approach is to use my congenial and positive disposition in building a therapeutic alliance. It has been useful and practical to use an eclectic approach in therapy. I have utilized cognitive behavioral therapy, motivational therapy, client centered therapy, and EMDR therapy. My PhD in Education from Michigan State University emphasized conflict management, which has been beneficial for clients with individual and interpersonal conflicts. I am a member of the American Academy of Health Care Providers through which I hold certifications in sexual addiction, alcoholism, and eating disorders. Additionally I am a CSAT (Certified Sexual Addiction Therapist) through the International Institute for Trauma & Addiction Professionals. I have practiced in hospitals and clinics working with dual diagnosis, depression, anxiety, grief and losses. From 2007 - 2020 I worked with soldiers and civilians with PTSD, which I found to be very rewarding and which led to me becoming a certified EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) therapist. By incorporating EMDR, I have seen positive changes and transformations with traumatized men and women. I hope you allow me to assist you, and we will work together collaboratively to enhance your life.

This isn't my first round with counseling but has surely been the most effective thanks to Franklin's knowledge of different types of counseling and history of psychology. His non-judgmental and optimistic attitude provides some rays of hope. When my memories start to lead me into a downward spiral he's quick to draw me back on course by reviewing and implementing certain principles that I find are actually working! His listening skills and caring attitude are greatly appreciated.

I always give Mr. Cardona a 10/10 rating because he is simply a diamond in the rough. He keeps a friendly, humerous, and jovial demeanor while maintaining utmost respect and professionalism. He listens closely and encourages me to further my therapy experience with his homework/thought exercises. He offers answers to questions I've yet to ask- or even understand about myself. He truly is a guidance counselor who strives for his clients and their mental health.

Mr. Cardona is a stand-up class act. I've been meeting with him for over a year now, and I have gained so much insight and knowledge that is simply invaluable. He is such a respectful person and genuinely cares about getting down to root causes. His work is thorough, yet he is always open to learning more and exploring the world of psychology. His expertise in romance, sex, anxiety, and depression are apparent, and I can personally attest to his knowledge in all 4 of those categories. I love that he assigns homework and checks in throughout the week as well. Couldn't ask for a better therapist!

Mr. Cardona is a top-class act. He absolutely respects me, my time, and goes at a pace that works for me. He assigns weekly homework that helps me challenge and explore myself and thinking. He's very professional, but has a sense of humor that always keeps a smile on my face! I couldn't imagine a better therapist for me than Mr. Cardona!

Reviewed December 2022

Dr. Cardona is a very intellectual therapist, with a very direct therapeutic method that sounded too good to be true. After a thorough investigation of his credentials, methods, principles, and reputation; I chose him to help me. He didn't have to, the first person I chose didn't want to, some stuff is too dark for even a therapist to want to work on. Immediately during our first introductory session, we were fast to work on the many, many troubles that plague me. I look forward to see how our sessions are going to turn out and the relief that follows. This isn't a one-time will-fix-you-forever type of thing. But Dr. Cardona does teach you how to utilize therapeutic methods during stressful situations.

Very light-hearted guy who works with you and dives deep into the root of the issue. His humor keeps a smile on your face, and he respects you to the fullest extent. His homework helps keep a guide for me personally, and I have nothing but good things to say about him. He's a wonderful therapist and loves to inquire and learn about his clients to help him better assist and perform his job.

Mr. Cardona is an exceptionally experienced therapist. His legacy and achievements boast immaculate expertise in therapy. While my experience has been limited at the moment, I have only had positive experiences with Mr. Cardona. He is extremely charismatic, understanding, and humerous, yet he still takes you seriously and with dignity. Could not recommend him more!

Franklin is very kind and has a sense of humor. I find that he has a memory bank for excellent books and authors of counseling-type topics (examples: shame, codependency) and this has helped me augment my healing process. With EMDR I feel safe to work through a memory with him and he leads the process, but if I ask if I’m doing it right, he is just gracious and affirming, and I find space in this non-grading to not grade myself. And in that, I find myself moving forward at a steady pace I hadn’t expected. Franklin will listen as much or EMDR as much each session as you want. I just have to take a moment before each session and decide what my need is that day/week. So I think it is important when working with Franklin to decide what you want to do for your session, perhaps message ahead of time, and then do that. I didn’t want a passive listener counselor but I didn’t want someone pressuring either. Franklin and I have a good balance and I appreciate how he flows with my goals/needs.

Franklin is amazing. We worked for 6 months on my PTSD from years as a photojournalist. Without a doubt, I would not be here today without his help and guidance this year. I would recommend working with him to anyone dealing with trauma of any kind. Thanks Dr. Cardona!

Working with Franklin is going well. We have a good blend of conversations and EMDR. The EMDR has been new to me and helpful, which seems like an understatement. It has been so encouraging to deal with memories and move on. I’m really pleased. Franklin is kind and has many years of experience to pair with his compassion and humor. Talking with him is never boring. I feel like our sessions matter to him professionally, meaning that he seems to be bringing his best to connect with me and is confident he can help me grow to a place where, in his words, “nothing from the past is holding me back”. Has anyone ever been confident about that for me? It is a fantastic goal and any progress in that direction is a win. I’m thankful for this support and am even reading a book by an author he recommended, John Bradshaw.” That is saying something because I don’t enjoy “self help” books.

Franklin is an amazing therapist who approached my sessions with so much knowledge and compassion. I never felt judged in any way and as a woman of color that was something I struggled to find. He is a true blessing and healer. The ways I’ve grown and healed are so impactful, I look forward to the clarity he’s helped me gain.

Two sessions with Franklin review: Franklin is so very kind and attentive and has a gentle sense of humor. When registering for BetterHelp, I requested to be matched with a counselor who would be less passive because in traditional counselor settings in the past I’ve struggled to grow and heal in some part because the counselors listened passively even when I would ask for strategies/books. I am pleased to say that already Franklin is introducing ideas and strategies to help me overcome past hurts, chronic painful memories, etc., and I feel more empowered and hopeful that I can gain a healthier stance and perhaps, with time, really establish a lot of strength and confidence in a renewed way of interacting with the past. I have a good life now, and I’ve worked and hoped really hard to create this better reality. My current goal with BetterHelp is to be equipped to own my peace and enjoy my victories more. I am so pleased that Franklin has honored my request for strategic input/help the first session when I asked and immediately, our next session, he introduced a strategy. We are off to a very good start.
