More about Charles

  • 6 years' experience
  • Non-binary
  • LCSW, LICSW

Deeply passionate about social justice and facilitating and guiding positive change and development in the lives of others, I am thrilled to connect with you as you begin your journey inward. Healing is truly the risk of showing up for yourself and your resistance to temptation to go back to unsilenced needs, numbing out, disconnection, and erasure. As a black, gender non-binary Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), I have a personal stake and insight into the work I do. As you are aware, we are living in unprecedented times. My clinical practice aims to empower and heal individuals, families & communities through therapy, consulting, case management, training, & community outreach.

Since graduating with my Master's in Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania in 2013, I have worked with folks across a wide array of presenting concerns, including managing symptoms of anxiety, mood dysregulation, and depression, healing with/from trauma, managing grief and loss, recovery from substance abuse and addiction, chronic illness, & LGBT issues. I work with clients at every stage of development in 1:1, couples, and family sessions. The feedback I receive from clients is that they find me to be innovative, caring and nonjudgmental, and they appreciate that I am responsive, honest and direct with them. You can expect me to walk with you through whatever difficulties you are facing and help you learn more about yourself and the way you interact with the world.

When we work together, I will tailor my approach to meet your needs and help you reach your goals. If you feel as though challenges are interfering with your sense of happiness and ability to function to your fullest potential, or if you are ready to alter your current life path, then I am available and able to assist you on your journey towards recovery. I can interact with you in whatever manner you are most comfortable. I find it helpful to participate in video sessions so that we can get to know each other better. But I am also available to you via phone and text if that is more comfortable for you.

I know how hard it can be to find a counselor who you feel a connection with and I would be honored to work with you through this stage of your life.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

I went through one of the hardest experiences of my life since starting therapy with Tyson and if it wasn’t for our insightful early sessions, I wouldn’t have known that I was being gaslit by my partner understood where my personal issues stemmed from. In a sense Tyson helped me emotionally prepare leaving my ex by helping me identify my core beliefs and values, by highlighting how important it is to continually work on my self-esteem and identifying relevant coping strategies. I had the tools and I made a life-changing decision; that on its own is something I am really grateful for. If you’re looking for someone that is patient, empathetic, resourceful and non-judgmental, Tyson’s the way to go!

Working with Charles has been an incredible experience. I've been in therapy before but I have never felt so welcomed and I have certainly not made as much progress as I have with Charles. With their guidance, I've been able to face issues I had never addressed before and they provided me with a lot of insight and "tools" to understand my emotions and where they are coming from

A very warm hearted therapist, who has a nice mix of theory and lived experience. This is characterized in the level of comfort you feel when unpacking difficult situations. This level of care on a virtual platform can be quite rare.

I've had two sessions with Charles, and I think he's really supportive. He'd listen to me and explore my feelings and the underlying reasons with me. He'd also send me worksheets and other materials to help me learn more about myself and my past experiences - I find it really helpful! I decided to extend my subscription because of the fact that I think working with him would be helpful and would allow me to learn more about myself. Thank you Charles!
