More about Debbie

  • 20 years' experience

I am a licensed clinical counselor in Columbus, Ohio with over 20 years of experience. I have been fortunate enough to work in a variety of settings including, community counseling, juvenile court, K-12 school, hospital consult and crisis management. I enjoy working with all populations of people, but feel especially passionate about adolescents and young adults. I have spent much of my career in a middle school and high school setting as well as a Children's Hospital. I am aware of the challenges that face our kids today both professionally and personally raising three teenage boys.

My approach to therapy is grounded in initial rapport and trust building. I rely on collaboration to determine the direction of growth, utilizing a strength based, solution focused strategy. I think it is valuable to focus on "here and now" reviewing strategies to overcome challenges impeding our ability to evolve and obtain goals. We all experience crossroads during which we have several choices and options to consider. Allow me to assist in evaluating and navigating those crossroads with the hope of reaching your desired destination.

In addition to my passion for people, I love spending time with my family, my two dogs and my close friends. I am a pretty active person, and release a lot of my stress and energy running and/or walking my "horse dog" Tucker.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.
