More about Allyson

  • 20 years' experience

As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, with 20+ years of clinical experience, I have had the opportunity to work with many different people, treatment settings and reasons for treatment and have practiced in a wide array of treatment settings. My earlier years in my career included experience working with children and adolescents includes sub-acute residential settings, therapeutic foster care and juvenile detention. I have worked with adults, families and youth in both rural and urban community mental health outpatient clinics. I am trained in EMDR. I have practiced primarily, the past 12 years, in a private psychotherapy practice, most recently in a group private practice where most of my work was with individuals in late adolescence (college age) through adulthood addressing varying mood disorders, adjustment disorders, eating disorders, trauma, and substance abuse issues that affect interpersonal relationships, work or employment, and goal setting. I have been conducting Telehealth through RISE Counseling, Inc. (risecounselinginc.com) since the start of the pandemic.

Having been trained in Psychodynamic Treatment, receiving my MSW from Smith College, my treatment style over the years has become more eclectic. I start where my client is and mold my style to what the specific needs are. I especially enjoy working with people who are motivated for change.

As a trained and registered Prana Yoga Instructor and Certified LifeForce yoga Practitioner (yoga to manage your mood), I also utilize yogic principles and teachings both on and off the mat to aid in mental health treatment and management of anxiety, depression and PTSD.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.
