More about John

  • 36 years' experience
  • Male
  • LCPC, LPC

As a Licensed Professional counselor and Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor, I have over 35 years experience. I have worked with all age groups across many dimensions, including outpatient, inpatient, residential, and emergency hospital settings. Areas I have worked with include, but are not limited to are depression, anxiety, relationship issues, communication issues, addictions, dependency and anger management. I generally take a cognitive behavioral approach, but do not limit my approach, but tailor my treatment to the individual client needs. I am generally laid back and very accepting in nature, but I also will be direct when I feel it is needed. I also like to instill some humor in therapy, but only when appropriate and not at the clients expense. It takes courage to reach out to someone for help, and I will support you in your endeavor. I believe therapy is about change, and it will take motivation and action on the client's part to make that change. But I will be there to support you in the process.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

John is a great therapist. He provides great guidance in helping me navigate my issues and learn how to address them.

Reviewed September 2023

John’s support and perspectives are rooted in decades of experience working with people of all ages and backgrounds. Working with John has been refreshing. He is respectful and understanding while calmly nudging me in the right direction. And because he has seen it all, I trust his advice and insights on sensitive matters. As a middle-aged divorced professional, I was seeking a mature and seasoned “sanity check” on my approach to dealing with my former spouse on matters affecting our college-aged kids. I am grateful that BH connected me with John and highly recommend him to prospective clients.

John is easy to talk to. I like that he also enjoys humor and that he is willing to ask the hard questions. I want to improve, and I like that he pushes for that. The humor element helps keep heavy things easier to talk about. He sends resources to review on my own time and is very responsive to messages. I can message him things that happen during the week so I don't forget to discuss them during our video sessions.

John has figured out what works best for me and rather than a bunch of “how does that make you feel” questions which I don’t do well with, we just talk. From the start it’s like I am just talking about good and bad things in my life with a friend. It’s really helped me find focus again with my work and the courage to do what I need in my personal life.

Reviewed January 2022

I have only had one session with John so it may be a bit soon to do a review. But I will say that I like John, I don't know how important that is in therapy or not. Before seeking help, I was wondering what kind of therapist I would get. One that challenged my assumptions and thoughts or one that advocated for me. John is more of the latter but as I said, one session is not much to go on. I am reading the book he recommended, it's helpful. The research and studies he recalls are also helpful. I will continue with John as time and money permit.

He even remembers when I have big events coming up throughout the week, and he'll send me a quick message asking how things went afterwards. He is a great counselor and an amazing person!

I started therapy with John in one of the most difficult moments of my life. At my lowest, John pulled me back up with his patience, kindness and wise advice. I can’t even picture what my life would have looked like have I not met him. John counseled me through a tough breakup, family issues, setting boundaries, self esteem issues, crippling paranoia and anxiety, friendship issues, dealing with events from my past and addressing questions regarding my faith that I’ve been too afraid to ask. John is very responsive, and always there to provide advice. I find him to be an excellent listener, a person who does not judge people but takes them as they are and tries to help them mend themselves. I find John to be very intelligent, well-read and a person who can see beyond cultural differences. He is a superb life-coach, and a very supportive person all around. After working with him for 6 months, I see changes in my life I never thought possible. I find myself having more moments of gratefulness and heart-warming laughs, I am getting so much better at saying “no” whenever I feel my limits being pushed, and I’m surprised at how I learned to enjoy my own company and like the things I do. I wholeheartedly believe John has been a blessing in my life. I would recommend him to anyone who needs guidance in their life. As I learned from John, things can get better, no matter how impossible it seems and it is in our power to make them so.
