More about Felicia

  • 25 years' experience

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in the state of Michigan. I have worked in the vocational rehabilitation field for over 25 years, with a wide range of clients who have mental health diagnosis. The primary focus has been helping clients identify their concerns and developing a plan to address the issues that impact their ability to maintain employment.

I am also a Board-Certified Case Manager, who worked as a Care Manager for the past 7 years as an independent contractor for Humana. My role as a Care Manager was to answer questions for patients and their caregivers to help with a smooth transition from a hospital stay as well creating a care plan to prevent hospitalizations in the future. By providing the following services, I helped them understand their doctor's advice, to learn about and find ways to afford their medications, provided ways to help them get meals, made arrangements to get to medical appointments as well as assessed to make the patients home safer. For example, I researched and identified community resources, that constructed a ramp for two of my patients, which decreased their fall risk.

My approach is client centered and solution focused. I believe everyone has the ability within themselves to change their circumstances if they are open, honest and are willing to put in the work. I also believe it is my job to help clients understand that change does not happen overnight and to encourage them that change is a journey that requires patience.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.
