Hello, I'm Hollis Greenspan, a licensed independent clinical social worker. Welcome to my profile page!
By choosing to enter into therapy, you've taken the first step towards self-empowerment and making positive life changes.
Change is a strange thing. Sometimes, the things that aren't working in our lives require altering something that we'd prefer not to let go of. Very often it's an idea or perception that needs to be released, and it's important to gain an awareness of the thoughts that maintain troublesome behaviors.
As an advanced graduate of a transformation-oriented counseling program, I have gained skill in helping people to release stuck patterns of thinking and behavior. I primarily use Mindfulness, a form of thought reframing called "Reality Therapy", Focusing, and Psychosynthesis counseling to assist clients.
Let me tell you a little about these latter two techniques. Focusing is a body-oriented practice that you can learn to do for yourself. It involves tuning in to deep levels of bodily sensations and accurately naming them, familiarizing yourself with a felt sense of the problem areas. Psychosynthesis is a post-Jungian approach to therapy work. The goal is to become aware of different, sometimes conflicting parts of your personality, to help them communicate and cooperate with each other. All parts of the personality are seen as having value, and this leads to acceptance of your self as a whole and diverse being.
I have worked with people from all walks of life, different ethnicities and cultures, and make room for everyone's point of view. My practice is grounded in Buddhist philosophy, but I don't push anyone to learn or practice that particular view of reality.
Here's the nitty gritty: I have a degree in cultural anthropology from Tufts University, a master's in social work from the University of Connecticut, and an advanced certification in counseling from The Synthesis Center in Amherst, Massachusetts. I have a special interest and many years of study in self-care, including nutrition, sleep hygiene, and other ways of embodying wellness.
Other areas of interest and expertise: Body dysmorphia, aging, creative blocks and perfectionism, death and dying, career choices and difficulties, pet loss, existential crisis, gender identity.
My experience working with depression, bipolar disorder, addiction, chronic illness, grief and loss, relationship problems, personality issues, and LGBTQ issues is extensive.
I approach psychotherapy with humor, love, and compassion. You are in the driver's seat, and self-empowerment is the ultimate goal. You will find me open-minded, caring, gentle, and flexible.
I look forward to meeting you.

Online counseling, sometimes called teletherapy, refers to talk therapy delivered remotely through digital platforms, such as video calls, phone calls, or chat. It can be a great option for people who face barriers to traditional face-to-face therapy, such as those living in remote areas, individuals with mobility issues, or people with busy schedules that make it difficult to attend in-person sessions.
Teletherapy also offers greater convenience and flexibility, allowing clients to access care from the comfort of their homes. Research shows that the treatment outcomes with online counseling are often just as effective as with traditional therapy, providing a viable alternative for individuals seeking mental health support.

Hollis is a wonderful therapist, very easy to talk to and very helpful!
She knows the right questions to ask to make me open up about my problems.
Hollis is extremely respectful and easy to talk to. She is very available and replies in a timely manner. She takes the time to get to know you and address what is needed. I enjoyed talking with Hollis.
Working with Hollis has been a wonderful experience. She listens; she challenges me to look at my thoughts with new perspectives and provides tangible strategies for addressing my hyper-critical inner monologue.
Hollis was able to listen through my words to the heart of the matters I was struggling with. I felt heard and supported during our conversations and was provided practical strategies to implement in my life as soon as I left our meetings. I would highly recommend this therapist!
Hollis makes me feel heard and understood, and BETTER after each session
Hollis is very kind and insightful!
Hollis has been a great resource for me as someone struggling with self esteem issues and extreme bipolar mood swings
Hollis was very easy to talk to and very helpful.
Hollis has really helped me to find ways to deal with my anxiety. Every session has helped me feel grounded, heard, and understood. I highly recommend her.
Has a reflective and attentive presence.
I have been working with Hollis for about 9 months. As someone who did not have any prior therapy, Hollis assisted me in creating a roadmap for what to expect in our sessions and what personal goals I wanted to work on. Hollis has helped me to work on self-shame, emotional regulation, and my relationship with others. Hollis asks very thought-provoking questions that linger with you. Hollis really wants you to be self-sufficient and do the hard, inner work while supporting you. I would not have made it through and experienced such growth without Hollis!
I have not been talking with Hollis for a very long time, but I already feel like she understands me, even when I am not able to properly explain myself.
Hollis asks questions that I wouldn't have asked myself, and they have been extremely helpful. I've done therapy several times before, but she has honestly been the most helpful therapist I've had so far.
Thoughtful
Every now and then, Hollis says 'hmm.' In the first session, I was afraid I said something weird. Being new to therapy, I was not sure how to share my innermost struggle with a stranger. But already in that first session, I felt safe. I quickly came to understand that Hollis' 'hmm' reflects a very knowledgable woman who is very thorough and committed to helping me and really thinks about how she can help me do better. I just started, but I already feel the impact of her questions and wise words for me to ponder. And I'm beyond grateful for that process Hollis facilitates. Thank you.
