More about Lynn

Hello! My name is Lynn DiFatta and I am Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Maryland. I completed graduate school in 2004 but began working in mental health in 2000. I have experience in both long term and short term psychiatric inpatient care, emergency care, and private practice. I have extensive experience in Trauma Disorders (PTSD, CPTSD, Dissociative Disorders, Anxiety) and significant experience with depression, self injury, mood disorders, sexual/intimacy struggles, and relationships. Additionally, I have given seminars and educational lectures on trauma, including childhood, adult, and vicarious traumatization.

My interest and subsequent study in mental health was generated by my belief that all people have struggles and go through periods of life that are difficult. My belief that life can be difficult for all of us at times, drives my core beliefs of respect and resiliency. I know that seeking support can be frustrating and trying however I know that support and help works. I have come to realize that our world has become increasingly stressful and isolative making it even harder to take the first steps in finding support but it is worth the time and risk to get started.

I use a holistic person centered approach. I pull from various modalities including CBT, DBT, solution focused, and mindfulness therapy. I think whatever modality or approach someone uses there is no more important value in counseling than authenticity and genuine positive regard for the individual and the relationship.

I would describe myself as kind, open minded, and honest. I would also describe myself as a realist who appreciates the stresses of life. I believe in a collaborative therapeutic relationship. We will work together to best understand you, understand your current situation, and we will work together establish goals. Change does not occur overnight but it does happen. I look forward to working with you.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

Lynn DiFatta is a warm, caring and knowledgeable therapist. She has guided and encouraged me to get in touch with my feelings after my shutting down my emotions and being numb for the past 20 years because of an emotionally abusive marriage. She has helped me through the fear of leaving the marriage after 43 years. Because of her I am almost there.

Truly an excellent therapist. A combination of psychological knowledge and life experience. Very empathetic.

Lynn is a wonderful therapist and has helped me immensely! To keep it short, I had been really struggling with anxiety and some unprocessed trauma that was making me miserable. Over the course of about 6 months, Lynn has helped me get back to feeling more like myself and feeling much more relaxed and positive (and has given me the tools to help me cope in a healthy way when things do get stressful). Lynn has been instrumental in my growth and is someone I look forward to meeting with for sessions. Highly recommend!!

I thought Lynn was very thoughtful, respectful always. She listened and also gave sound advice. I would recommend her to amyome and would certainly take my 2 most valueable people I know, my 2 sons, to her if they have issues that require counseling. She also knows how to dig and get you to confront your problems without coming off as a know it all, which some couselors I habe encountered in the past have done. Lynn has been absolutely amazing and is helping me change my life. I don’t know what I would do without her at this time in my life.

Reviewed June 2021

I mean we are still getting to know eachother, but I like her holistic, natural approach. It is what counseling is aupposed to be, talking, listening, sharing and she gets me to open up. I had therapy when I was young near the time I had trauma, and it was a half hour session and had a prescription at the end of it. But there wasnt much sharing and I never processed through my feelings. Here take a happy pill. Now I am finally looking into things and Lynn has been helpful with that process. Naturally I suppress my feelings but I am sharimg and looking at things after years of ignoring them and that can be overwelming. Alot has come out of me because I feel I held things in for too long. But settling in.

Reviewed May 2021

I’m so glad I have the privilege to change counselor since my first one didn’t align with me. I’m enjoying my sessions with Lynn she is very attentive, responsive, and truly understands me and sees through me and I like that she finds me funny :) I never thought of myself as a funny person. I look forward to keep working with her.
