Mimi is just a breath of fresh air. She listens and provides wonderful insight. Her humility is extremely encouraging to witness and learn from.

I had a wonderful experience with Mimi as my first therapist. I was really struggling to find solid ground under the stress of my grad program and many other relational and life issues. With Mimi's help, I was able to identify patterns of thinking that were making me put more pressure on myself than I needed to, and have become able to give myself gratitude and space to feel these complex feelings. Mimi was an impartial, steady listener to whatever I felt like talking about and drew from her many experiences to provide a well rounded view of what might be underlying, often suggesting helpful things to focus on in the future. I feel I am in a much better place now because of her, as a welcome and necessary step in my life-long therapy journey.

I am a licensed clinical social worker/therapist licensed in Maryland and the District of Columbia with over 10 years of experience. I have been truly blessed to work with clients ranging from preteens to the elderly dealing with varying issues such as depression, anxiety, relationship issues to anger management, family issues and physical and emotional abuse to name a few. I have been especially proud of working with youth and young adults who were and formally in the foster care system transition emotionally and mentally to adulthood and society as a whole. These issues often interrupt our daily lives and can feel debilitating. However, when one has a trusting therapeutic relationship with someone who cares, one can work towards a path to freedom.

My counseling style is interactive, empathetic and warm. It is my belief that listening is the key to success in a therapeutic relationship and every client that I am blessed to serve will feel heard. Being treated with dignity, respect and compassion are also the tenets that I abide by and will display that in every interaction and intervention. My approach combines strengths therapy, cognitive-behavior therapy and solution-focused therapy to ensure that the highest level of outcomes are achieved as outlined by a unique treatment plan that will be tailored to your needs.

The courage it takes to decide to seek help to experience a healthier, happier life is no small feat but will derive high dividends through our work together. Throughout this process, and through your accomplished goals, you will soon realize that this was the best decision you ever made for yourself. If you are ready to take that step, I am here to support and empower you.

I look forward to working with you!

Online counseling, sometimes called teletherapy, refers to talk therapy delivered remotely through digital platforms, such as video calls, phone calls, or chat. It can be a great option for people who face barriers to traditional face-to-face therapy, such as those living in remote areas, individuals with mobility issues, or people with busy schedules that make it difficult to attend in-person sessions.

Teletherapy also offers greater convenience and flexibility, allowing clients to access care from the comfort of their homes. Research shows that the treatment outcomes with online counseling are often just as effective as with traditional therapy, providing a viable alternative for individuals seeking mental health support.

This has been the best counseling experience I have ever had. Mimi helped me through an unexpected job loss, family issues with a teenager and non-coparenting ex spouse. She gave me tools to navigate through it all. I feel empowered and have learned to love myself through this process. Thank you Mimi ❤️

Mimi is awesome. We've been working together for a few months now. She checks on me regularly even when we are not meeting and she has helped me put a lot of things into perspective.

While I've only had a couple short sessions with Mimi, I already have an idea of how amazing she is! So far, she had helped me tremendously, not only in identifying a plan of attack to manage my anxiety, but also in asking difficult, but noteworthy questions. These questions have provided me with the chance to reflect not only on myself and my own emotions, but understanding emotions of others as well. Have had nothing but positive outcomes thanks to Mimi!

Cheers to healing and much needed honesty. Counseling with Efuntomiwa (Mimi) was the highlight of my 2020. She gave me honesty, kindness, and room for growth. Activities that made me confront who I was and how I live, tools to enhance my life, and wisdom I will never forget. I couldn’t have asked for a better therapist. She was a great addition to my journey. No regrets, just grateful.
