More about Melissa

  • 11 years' experience
  • Female
  • LCSW, CSW

Hello, my name is Melissa and I am an MSW and LCSW, with more than 15 years in the mental health field. I graduated with honors in 2005 from Indiana University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology. In 2009, I obtained a master's degree in social work from Indiana-Purdue University. I received my clinical social work license from the state of Indiana in 2011 and then from the state of Colorado in 2015 after I traded in cornfields for mountains. Over the last 15 years I've been lucky enough to work with a lot of different populations in many different settings. I sort of feel like I've done it all, like if the mental health field was a menu I've ordered almost everything on it. I hope that means that I bring many years of well-rounded experience to the table.

A famous author once said, “The most important things are the hardest to say… because words diminish them. Words shrink things that seemed limitless when they were in your head to no more than living size when they are brought out.” That’s why I’m so glad you’re here. Therapy and talking to someone about your fears and anxieties and other things you’re going through can be really helpful. Those thoughts and feelings that seem really overwhelming? You may realize they are actually pretty tiny when we bring them into the light and take an honest look. Or maybe they’re not. Maybe they’re as big as you thought they might be. And, we can do something about those, too.

My therapy style is a relaxed mix of CBT (thinking about thinking), DBT, solution-focused, and motivational dialogue. But, maybe the most important thing to know up front is that therapy and therapists are not a ‘one size fits all’. If we talk and you decide I’m not quite what you need, that is absolutely okay because you are the most important part of this process. You are the driver. This is your time to get to know yourself better in a safe and confidential space so that you can live a life that feels like it’s really yours. I’m really glad you’re here.

Online counseling, sometimes called teletherapy, refers to talk therapy delivered remotely through digital platforms, such as video calls, phone calls, or chat. It can be a great option for people who face barriers to traditional face-to-face therapy, such as those living in remote areas, individuals with mobility issues, or people with busy schedules that make it difficult to attend in-person sessions.

Teletherapy also offers greater convenience and flexibility, allowing clients to access care from the comfort of their homes. Research shows that the treatment outcomes with online counseling are often just as effective as with traditional therapy, providing a viable alternative for individuals seeking mental health support.

Melissa has been such a great help to me so far in my therapy experience. Melissa has an amazing way of getting me to think differently and getting me to realize I knew the answers all along. She has been a great guide and really listens. She tries to understand where I'm coming from and lets me know I'm not alone and others have the same issues. You are in good hands with Melissa. I can't thank her enough for the help she gives me.

Melissa has good boundaries and great reflective listening skills. She is helping me to build resilience in ways which respect my process and help me feel at ease.

Reviewed December 2020

I find Melissa's focus on CBT therapy compatible with what I'm finding helpful about therapy, especially as this is my first official time talking to my own therapist. She has provided me with ways to check myself for unhelpful thought processes to trace the root of why I think the way I do. She's great at checking in and really makes an effort (despite how finicky WiFis get) to connect at our designated video times, which I really appreciate.

Reviewed December 2020

Melissa is very friendly, and you can tell she's really listening to what you have to say, and is giving you her full attention without judgement.

She is so friendly and easy to talk to and always has a good way of explaining and understanding my thought processes. She has given me wonderful tips and resources to help me improve my anxiety and anyone who gets the chance to have her as a counsellor will be very lucky.

She knows what she's talking about. She isn't afraid to be frank with me about my issues, but at the same time delivers them in a way that is considerate of my feelings. Everything she's said so far has been incredibly helpful and insightful and I'm excited to go through this journey with her!
