My name is Melissa Averett. I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor. I earned my Master Degree in Education Counseling at Southeastern Louisiana University in 2008. I’ve worked 4 years in a residential setting with woman recovering from addiction. I also worked 9 years providing outpatient counseling to adults for wide range of struggles and mental illness. I help Clients that have experienced the trauma of divorce begin the healing and forgiveness process. I use Person Centered Counseling to build rapport and help my clients identify their counseling need and set counseling goals. I use Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Cognitive Restructuring to help clients identify, dispute and restructure maladaptive thoughts into healthier thoughts and beliefs. I like to teach my clients about healthy boundaries, how to improve self esteem, choices and consequences, healthy coping skills and assertive communication skills to improve relationships. Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

My first therapy experience….. I’m not very trusting and my daughter guided me to seek therapy. I’m so thankful that Melissa is a Christian professional and open and immediately she helped me in every way it was so much more than I had anticipated. I was very nervous about beginning for the first time but she always has a smile and encouraging word and her suggestions for me to try new things or look at things in a different perspective I don’t know how I made it without her assistance and encouragement. Her prayers during session and Her texting with me on my first weekend because I had opened up too many cans of worms at once and she could tell that it was going to overwhelm me so she text me often on the first weekend and she recorded a prayer two or three different times that just settled my nerves immediately. I really felt like I was the culprit and I was wrong in every circumstance I had I just couldn’t process it she validated my feelings and understood and we shared some common experiences . if I interviewed for days and had to choose it would’ve been her. Thank you to your company and Melissa for growing trust where there was none♥️ I’m healing.

Melissa Averett is an amazing woman and counselor. She’s a good listener. And she has already helped in the one video session we’ve had and her messages to me pull me through a lot. I can tell she actually cares about her people not as (patience) but their humanity. She cares about humanity. And it shows.

I've only been talking with Melissa for a short time now but she's been very helpful from the start. I was a little wary and unsure of this kind of counseling but those feelings were gone quickly. It's great to be able to send my thoughts and feelings whenever I'm having them knowing that she'll read them and respond with helpful thoughts, insight, and suggestions. Our first video session went great and wasn't awkward at all! Melissa really listens and cares. I'm so glad I took a chance and signed up because this is something I want to keep in my life. Honestly I prefer it to the traditional once weekly counseling I've had in the past.

Reviewed April 2020

I think Mrs Melissa is wonderful. She sees my messages and doesn't just automatically answer them. She responds to let me know that she has seen them and she hears me. But wants to take a moment to fully process them. And she then truly hears what I say and then gives her response. She never belittles me or chastises me for my negative thinking or anything. She encourages and pushes me to do better. Our video sessions go great as well. She always allows me to say what I need to be said but she also keeps me on track with what our goal is. She gives me works sheets after our session to help me achieve my desired goal(s) and they are good tools. And she will occasionally send another to help if I mention another struggle I'm having, even before our video session. Mrs. Melissa is easy to talk to, I was extremely nervous talking to her at first and I was honest and told her that and she has always put me at ease. I have truly enjoyed the time I have had with her and I look forward to continuing our progress to helping me be a better version of myself.
