I just love her work and how.she has helped me through grief. Simply wonderful

Charlene is amazing at not only listening to my concerns but providing coping skills to deal with my issues outside of therapy. I enjoy that she validates my feelings while still calling me out on my negative behaviors that I am trying to improve on. I have found (& been told) that I have improved overall in managing my emotions over the past year since starting therapy with Charlene.

Thank you for considering Better Help to be a support for you! Change is easier when you feel heard, understood, validated and empowered. I believe that a trusting and honest relationship where your therapist helps you feel that you are the expert to your experience is extremely important to your belief that you can achieve the goals you set for yourself.

My name is Charlene Esquilin and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in the state of New York. I earned my Masters in Social Work from Hunter College in 2013. I identify as a Hispanic/Black Female and I believe my identity can be relatable for many. I grew up in a community where getting support through counseling was not very supported. As I've gotten older I began to understand the importance of feeling supported, validated and getting guidance from someone that looks like me and can relate to me . Having that connection was and is so vital to how I developed and are continuing to develop my identity and confidence. My desire is to be this support for others.

I have found that using a client center approach in sessions is very beneficial to building a safe and supportive environment. My goal in therapy is to create a comfortable space where clients feel that they are seen as people, that they can share whatever they feel comfortable to share at their own pace and that they feel heard and that their feelings and and valid no matter how big or small. It is also a goal of mine to provide an environment where I come alongside clients in a collaborative way to support them to accomplish the goals that are important to them. During my time in this field I have learned that providing a respectful, nonjudgmental environment is what contributes to a healthy therapist-client relationship where the client can thrive and feel most empowered.

I've worked in many different settings with individuals and families which include working with children and adults with disabilities, working with individuals who have open ACS cases, as well as adults, children, teenagers and families experiencing challenges connected to emotions likes anxiety, depression, anger, relationship problems, addictions and adjusting to different life situations. I also have experience working with parents in a group setting providing them support as they improve their parenting skills. I have worked in a variety of settings such as foster care agencies, schools, clinics and religious organizations.

You are welcome to message me anytime through Better Help. I will usually check messages twice each day, seven days per week. I will offer messaging, live chat and phone sessions with evening availability Monday through Thursday and Morning and evening times Friday though Sunday. Please note that what you see in my calendar may not reflect my only availability so you always want to check that out with me through messaging first.

I look forward to working with you!

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

I am so happy that I found Charlene. I had signed up with Better Help a few weeks before I found her, but scheduling with time changes was difficult matching with other therapists. When I started searching, Charlene's reviews were wonderful (and absolutely true). She is patient, a wonderful listener, empathetic, and always responds in a timely manner. I always look forward to the days when we have our video chat sessions, and I can truly tell there's been an improvement in myself since working with her.

When I first started with the Better Help App I was extremely disappointed with my First Theropist that was assigned to me and I was ready to cancel my membership, that’s when I was switched to my now Theropist Charlene Esquilin. I truly can not say enough about Charlene!!! :) she’s absolutely Amazing!!!! She offers Excellent Advice, as well she is always willing to just listen when I need to just get things off my chest, she has helped me in so many ways . I lost my oldest son 6 1/2 years ago and to date Charlene has helped me even more I believe than she may even possibly realize and I’ve only had a handful of sessions to date with her. Where can I start , the day I signed up to better help I didn’t know what to expect. Not sure how the selection is chosen but I am happy I am paired with her , she opened up to me about herself and gave her me her resume on how long she’s been a counselor. I am more than happy with her being my counselor she is so sweet and a great listener. It’s almost like she’s knows when something is wrong and it’s only 2nd time having an appointment with her. I highly recommend her as my counselor. She can tell you I was being stubborn saying I dish to need counseling and she quickly changed my mind. Soon as we finish our sessions I feel so much lighter and I am super great full for her presence. I’d give her a 5 star google review.

Ms. Esquilin has been a tremendous help for me. Caring, compassionate, and a genuinely good person are some words I would use to describe her. As someone who, until recently, never put much weight into counseling, I can honestly say that Ms. Esquilin has changed that and has allowed me to open up freely.
