Susan has been my therapist for about 3 years now. She has helped me grow so much since working together and I am so grateful to have had the chance to work with her! She has helped me believe in myself and help break toxic patterns that I have gone through in life due to past family and friend dynamics. She is very kind, open, supportive, and gives great resources!

Susan O'Connell has been wonderful to work with. She has helped me realize that a lot of my anxiety and depression come from being very critical of myself and having little compassion towards myself. She has identified why I have these traits and the clarity I have gotten from knowing this and working through them with her has helped immensely. I have less panic and anxiety attacks and when I do I am able to use the tools and knowledge Susan has given me to avoid becoming depressed and feeling hopeless. I enjoy reading and the material and exercises she has suggested for me have been appropriate and realistic.

More about Susan

  • 35 years' experience

  • LCSW

I am a licensed Clinical Social Worker in the State of Wisconsin. I began my career in the area of addictions, working both with the patient and families of people with substance abuse problems. I have since expanded on that area and have extensive experience working with depression, stress and anxiety, relationship issues, grief and loss, chronic medical issues, caregiver and compassion fatigue,

I try to meet each person that I work with where they are at and help them discover their strengths and develop plans to assist with the changes they would like to make. It takes alot to reach out for help, and I want to make sure that I honor that and help people feel that they are not alone in their struggles.

Since I have been in the field for a long time, I have been trained in a multitude of treatment approaches but I have committed to staying current in the new ideas that are being used. I currently rely heavily on Cognitive Behavioral Therapy as well as Acceptance and Committment Therapy. I incorporate education and homework to augment the time that we spend together. I also feel strongly that I need to practice what I preach and work on maintaining a healthy lifestyle myself. At this point, I am working primarily Wednesday through Friday 9 to 5, and 8 to 2 on Saturdays. If you need evening appointments, please look for a therapist with that availability.

Online counseling, sometimes called teletherapy, refers to talk therapy delivered remotely through digital platforms, such as video calls, phone calls, or chat. It can be a great option for people who face barriers to traditional face-to-face therapy, such as those living in remote areas, individuals with mobility issues, or people with busy schedules that make it difficult to attend in-person sessions.

Teletherapy also offers greater convenience and flexibility, allowing clients to access care from the comfort of their homes. Research shows that the treatment outcomes with online counseling are often just as effective as with traditional therapy, providing a viable alternative for individuals seeking mental health support.

I was skeptical through the first two or so sessions because what we talked about were things that I felt were baggage to me for so long. But Susan Made me realize that it isn’t so much that and it could be resolved through the most simplest of things. I’m slowly beginning to feel better thanks to her.

I enjoyed working with Susan and would recommend to others.

Reviewed December 2020

Susan is a caring and thoughtful person and I could not recommend more. She is an excellent listener and really provides helpful advice without sounding procedural/clinical. Perhaps it is because she has such an excellent sense of empathy, but, I always truly feel understood by her. While I have told her some things I’m certainly not proud of - I’ve never felt judged. I’m picky with who I share my story with, and I’m so happy that I found her! She has helped me so much over the past year and I would give her 15 stars in a 5 star review. She listens and is there to hear it all, the good the bad and the ugly, but always manages to provide thoughtful responses and somehow.... sprinkle light into some really dark situations. Our discussion have taught me a lot and I am highly recommend speaking with her. Thank you Susan.
