Devoted to not only assist you in embarking on a journey of self-discovery, but also, ways in which you can best utilize the gifts that you possess! I am an ambitious, strength based counselor yearning to change the ways that we view mental health. I graduated from Lenoir Rhyne University where I obtained a Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology. My professional credentials include Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LCMHC) in North Carolina, Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Oregon, Qualified Supervisor (QS), Licensed Clinical Addiction Specialist (LCAS), and Certified Clinical Supervisor (CCS) in the state of North Carolina.

My expertise stems in the treatment and management of co-occurring disorders, of which include experience in working with low motivation/self-esteem, life adjustments, trauma-related difficulties, anxiety/depression, substance use difficulties, as well as aspects of various mood and personality disorders (borderline, narcissistic, etc)! Although I consider myself to have knowledge in several treatment interventions, I utilize a combination of strength based and behavioral interventions, of which include Solution Focused Therapy, Reality Therapy with Choice Theory, as well as Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (CBT/DBT).

My approaches to counseling are grounded in holistic wellness and choice theory. Holistic approaches include inquiry about different aspects that make up your life and that you believe contribute to making you well or less well. These areas are integrative health approaches that focus on mental, body, spiritual, emotional, and connection wellness. I also harness skills to allow for further assessment and inquiry surrounding informed food choices, potential food allergies, as well as supplementation to aid with mental health improvements. Choice theory is an approach that focuses on our motivation to pursue a never-ending quest to satisfy 5 basic needs woven into our genes: to love and belong, to be powerful, to be free, to have fun and to survive.

I encourage all individuals to lean into the collaborative process between therapist and client to find solutions to better your mental health. This therapy pursuit also facilitates a process of taking responsibility for the perceptions and responsibilities of choices in your life. I adopt philosophies that adopt a bio-psycho-social lens to most assist individuals in taking ownership of their lives once again.

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

His responses in the chat are always thorough, detailed and timely. He always manages to get straight to the point and puts words to what I'm feeling so I can understand myself on a different level. I have really enjoyed having Corey Pitts. He is a very good listener and he always responds back with thought provoking responses/questions. I always feel like he really listens to every feeling, concern, or just in general seems very in tune with me and my healing process. He also remembers family members or friends names of people I regularly bring up in therapy phone calls. It’s much easier to express myself knowing when I reference a sister or friend he is aware of who I’m talking about without reexplaining who they are each time. Corey seems very knowledgeable in his field and I would highly recommend him to others. He is also very timely for all phone sessions When he is unavailable to have a call he always checks on through messenger, so I never really feel like I can’t express myself any given week. He is also extremely professional which is important to me when it comes to therapy. Corey seems very intelligent and when we speak I like knowing he is highly aware of where I am at emotionally, and mentally . Again I would highly recommend him to other BetterHelp future clients.

I've been working with Corey for only a couple of weeks and I have never covered so much ground with a therapist before! Corey has a very straight-forward approach that gets to the nitty-gritty of the issues at hand. I love how his questions encourage me to stop and think and are stated in such a way that allows me to work toward a solution on my own with his guidance. Corey only does messaging through BetterHelp, but that actually works better for me. He responds quickly and thoroughly to the point that I feel I am getting so much more out of this than past face-to-face therapy sessions. I highly recommend!

I had been text messaging with Corey for about a month now. Although he is limited to texting or voice recordings I have not found this to be an issue. If anything, he leverages text messaging to assist in constructing well thought out responses to one's questions and concerns. Definitely recommend if you are looking for a therapist but may be too shy to voice or just simply appreciate a slower pace to questions and answers.
