I imagine you may be experiencing a number of emotions. Are you feeling overwhelmed by the process of selecting a counselor? Hopeful about the possibility of receiving support and making change? Skeptical about how an online therapist profile can actually give you a sense of a therapist's approach and how you might be able to work with them?

You're not alone.

I can tell you facts about me. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) licensed in the States of California, Oregon and Washington. I attended the University of California, Berkeley and received Masters in Social Work (MSW) and Public Health (MPH) and have had over 10 years of experience providing counseling to the medically sick, terminally ill, the bereaved, veterans and many others. I am experienced in and often use Dialectical Behavioral therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral therapy (CBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and I use a Humanistic approach that is Solution-Focused. These are techniques and approaches that you can Google to learn more about me but they alone may not tell you if you and I will work well together.

Beyond the technical trainings and skills, here is who I am.

I believe in therapy. I believe the statement that “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care”. Practicing therapy gives me the opportunity and joy of practicing caring in a professional and skilled way. The therapy outcomes research bears this out: Across all treatment approaches, the most important correlates of positive therapy outcomes are: 1. Therapist characteristics (empathy, warmth, genuineness) 2. Alliance between therapist and client 3. Adoption of new behaviors by client

Online counseling, also known as teletherapy, is a method of delivering mental health services through digital means such as video conferencing, phone calls, or messaging platforms. It can be an ideal option for individuals who have difficulty accessing traditional therapy due to geographical distance, time constraints, or personal preferences like privacy and comfort. Many people find it easier to open up from the familiarity of their own space.

Teletherapy has been found to be highly effective, with studies showing that it can produce similar outcomes to in-person therapy, particularly for issues like anxiety, depression, and PTSD. The flexibility and accessibility it offers make it a valuable alternative to conventional therapy settings.

My conversations with Mark really helped during the most difficult time as I was dealing with a personal loss. Our conversations gave me a lot of perspective and direction to make smaller incremental changes as well as the bigger changes to positively influence my life and the ones dear to me.

I was initially skeptical about the messaging aspect of communicating to my counselor as offered on Better Help. But Mark is so responsive and helpful through this format that it has become my favorite way to reach out. It seems like a very direct and efficient way to discuss my concerns. Mark responds quickly. He is compassionate and caring. I have a lot of rejection issues. I frequently feel excluded and abandoned in key life relationships. I have hope that Mark will help me explore and find my pathway to peace so that I can live my best life and realize that I have a purpose.

Mark Yeung, I find is very confident in his teachings and he is very kind in his words. I've never done counseling before in my life. It would been kind of nice if I had him on a phone or virtual however messaging back and forth work just fine for me and him. I definitely would recommend him if you're not really into the phone calls or video. My husband and I are back on track and I appreciate his kind words and his teachings..

Mark has been an incredible counselor for me. I have paired with more than a handful of counselors on this site, and none have worked out for me, except for Mark. He is the only one that addressed what I said at the level of detail that I am looking for and matches with how I process things. He is very in tune with what I write and what I say and maintains the continuity of our conversation. I do not feel like what I say gets forgotten or doesn't get addressed. Mark thoroughly addresses the topics we discuss and I feel that he is really paying attention and cares. He is very professional and puts the effort and concern behind his work and communication that I feel every counselor should. In addition, he has been so receptive to my communication style, tailoring a perfect mixture of messaging and live sessions. I am so thrilled to finally be working with a counselor that I can really connect with and learn from and feel like I'm really gaining something. I couldn't be happier and I'm looking forward to continue making progress with Mark. Thank you Mark!!
