I am fortunate to have found Tyson. He remembers details of my life based on our sessions and this history helps guide him in skillfully facilitating our time. He asks good questions, helps me reflect and grow. He values meeting me where I am at and at the same time, continues to challenge me to see a perspective that may help me to consider, all while showing deep compassion, knowledge, and relational skills. He comes with a lens of equity and high emotional intelligence.

I have worked with Tyson over the course of years not continuously but in spurts for a few months and then taking a break. Tyson understands my history and my family and work so I don't have to start over with him and we can pick up just where we left off. It's so great. It's like returning to an old friend except that he provides wise counsel, thoughtful questioning and helps me reflect and take action in a compassionate way. I am so grateful to have found someone who is a great fit for me and has helped me many times in my life .

More about Tyson

  • 14 years' experience

I am a licensed professional counselor in Oregon with over 19 years of experience working with adult, individuals, couples and families. I have worked with clients with a wide range of concerns including depression, anxiety, relationship issues, parenting problems, career challenges, OCD and ADHD. I have also helped many people who have experienced difficult life transitions, physical trauma (including athletic injury) and abuse.

My treatment approach is rooted in relationship and the genuine goodness of all human beings. I believe that we are all striving for psychological balance and flexibility. We regularly face seemingly insurmountable obstacles such as shame, doubt, fear, anxiety and depression. In response, we seek out very reasonable strategies of short-term relief in effort to move away from these undesired internal states. I am most interested in helping you understand what you most value. From there I am invested in helping you accept and claim those values, lean into the undesired internal states and frightening external obstacles, and understand what coping styles may help you forge a path towards your long-term valued goals. With the therapeutic relationship as a vehicle, I strive to create an environment that helps you continuously move towards what is most important in your life.

It takes courage to seek a more fulfilling and free life and to take the first steps towards a change. If you are ready to take that step I am here to support and empower you.

I look forward to working with you!

It is convenient for those who may have trouble getting to or would prefer not to have in-person therapy appointments. Starting at $65 per week, online counseling is generally more affordable than in-person counseling. A study by researchers at University of California, Berkeley found that online counseling can be just as effective as face-to-face therapy while being more convenient, affordable, and accessible.

Tyson provides a lot of helpful insights into taking apart the roots of my anxiety and depression. He's also very organized, which has helped me greatly.

Reviewed May 2021

He's awesome.

Reviewed April 2021

Tyson is first off, a very easy person to talk with and get to know. He's personable and relatable. He's highly skilled and research based but makes information accessible and easy to digest to his clients. In other words, he makes things digestible to your level. He's a real person with his own life and struggles which I appreciate. I have learned a great deal, been able to put things into action with his help and feel supported and celebrated with Tyson.

Reviewed December 2020

Tyson has an incredible ability to focus in on the sometimes vague and/or disparate adjectives I toss out to describe my feelings, intentions, goals, questions, etc., and then to provide a concise, clear, single sentence. His ability to provide me with language to understand my own internal dialogues is worth every penny. He listens well and makes it clear that he is alongside you for the long haul, which is what I have been searching for for a very long time.

Reviewed November 2020

Tyson is a skilled, caring therapist. I feel like I am growing every time we meet. Tyson gives me practical things to try in my daily life that help me be more aware of my self, my feelings, and my interactions with others. I'm learning so much with Tyson and I'm glad that he was selected to be my counselor.

Reviewed November 2020

Tyson was instrumental in getting me through a very difficult time and continues to support me as I work through my feelings as I come out the other side.

Reviewed August 2020

Tyson fosters a safe and encouraging environment in which I am able to continually learn and grow.

Reviewed August 2020

Tyson is intelligent and an excellent communicator both in written form and in person. He is educated in his field but first and foremost, listens to his clients before making assumptions on their needs. Once he listens and hears, then he offers good counseling and sound information based on research and practice. He is very human and adds his own personal relationship building to help clients feel that he's real and has struggled just as much as we do. I immediately liked him and felt he was a good fit for me. He is well versed in trauma informed practices so could relate to my practice as an educator too in the public school system. As mentioned previously, he's an excellent writer and follows up with email information, resources and food for thought which is both insightful and action oriented.

Reviewed January 2020

Tyson did a really good job and I can finally say that I don't need therapy right now, since I am in much better shape. He was my counselor for about 5 or 6 months for depression, best therapist I've had. He helped me accomplish many of my career and personal goals, and I am much happier than I was now. When you align with your values with career, family, or anything else in your life, your life becomes much better. He also left me with a few techniques I can work on so I can continue to work on observing and overcoming my negative thoughts and behaviors. I would highly recommend. Thank you Tyson!
