More about Richard

  • 10 years' experience
  • Male
  • LCSW

I first became interested in working with mental health when I returned home from Afghanistan while in the Army National Guard. I have seen many friends fall victim to substance abuse, depression, and PTSD. I swore that I would work on being in the position to best help veterans and others who go through difficult situations. Being an addictions counselor and Social Worker is very personal to me. It is my passion.

Seeing that I already had a bachelor's in Community Health, I made it my goal to become some kind of practitioner. When I learned about Social Work, I was overwhelmed with the idea of getting my Masters and working towards a license. A few years later, I finally received my Licensed Clinical Social Worker. I am proud of my license and it took 5 years of hard work to attain. I have now been working in the mental health and addiction field for roughly 10 years.

I first got into counseling in the military. After a few years of working in inpatient mental health and substance abuse, I spent some time outpatient. I specialize in addictions but have much experience with people with depression, anxiety, and trauma. I have an extra certified credential of being a Certified Trauma Therapy Professional. I also have experience helping people dealing with relationships, careers, and other life issues as well. Also, I have experience working with those who have a criminal background. I try to listen and understand your problems and point of view the best I can. Based on this I work with you to develop a plan to help you make improvements. My main focus is to help you make a positive change.

I hope to work around your needs. It's my hope that I can help support you through whatever it is you're going through. Some people just want support, while others want formal therapy. Just let me know what it is you're looking for.

Sometimes people just need to talk to someone or need positive encouragement. I am happy to give this as well. I am here to be a positive person in the lives of people that need more positive people.

In my free time, I like being with my family and animals. I like to attend sporting events and concerts.

It is convenient for those who may have trouble getting to or would prefer not to have in-person therapy appointments. Starting at $65 per week, online counseling is generally more affordable than in-person counseling. I worked with Rick for months. He is an amazing trauma specialist and very good at what he does. I have met all of my goals with him and healed tremendously. Unfortunately as a NY Resident since many things are returning back to pre-Covid, I can no longer have Rick as a counselor and I am so sad about it! I am glad and thankful to have met all of my goals with him though! Also, if you choose Rick be prepared to do the work and the worksheets, I promise it makes a difference! I am sad to see us separate but I know he will help so many others! Happy healing everyone.

Counselor Rick Rodgers has helped me a lot after only 2 sessions. He took time to listen to me and understand what I wanted from our time together. He is very knowledgeable and understanding. For me, he went over tools to cope with anxiety during our sessions to help in the moment but also gave me worksheets to do on my own time that gave me the tools necessary to deal with my anxiety all on my own. Very empowering. Thank you again to Rick Rodgers!

Rick spends the time to develop a program that works for your needs. Everything is built up over time and is never rushed. Highly recommended.

I like this therapist, it's very difficult for me to connect with people in a way that they understand what I'm trying to say or what I'm really thinking about a situation and he's very good at locking into that focus point and helping me understand

Reviewed March 2021

Rick Rodgers listens and gives feedback. I don't feel as if I'm being judged.

Reviewed March 2021

I ha e tried counseling before, but the mental health professional listened, but didn't offer any "tools" to help cope with my situation. So far, in 2 sessions, Rick has given me several different perspectives, as well as different worksheets to see and work on and provide information. I believe that this has helped me more than I thought online counseling would. Rick has helped me start to make valuable changes and provide a positive direction to turn to. I will continue to seek the guidance he given me so far

Reviewed March 2021

I highly recommend Rick Rodgers. He stays consistent with sharing information with worksheets after our session pertaining to that session. With his help , I’ve been able to improve my communication skills.

He is absolutely amazing! I have been trying to get in with a therapist locally at my Psychiatrist office and it was taking weeks. I finally got in with one, while I was still using BetterHelp, and they can’t get me back in until October!!! It’s crazy and not helpful especially when you’re going through Covid-19 and traumatic experiences. I’m recommending this and Rick to everyone I know. He is OUTSTANDING!

I was paired with other counselors who were very short with me or weren't available in a timely manner. Rick provides responses as soon as he can, rather its a scheduled appointment or not. He truly cares about his clients.

Rick is very supportive and offers really practical advice to complex problems. Two thumbs up!

Rick is great. I tried the online scene a while back with a different company, and was not happy. Rick is refreshing and helpful and almost always available!! Two thumbs way up.

I thought that Rick Rodgers was a great councilor. I he would always listen to what I had to say and helped identify and figure where I needed to improve on in my thoughts. I also greatly appreciated him being tough on me about doing exercises and failing to keep myself on schedule. He was never rude about it too, he would instead ask why I'm not trying to better myself and what was holding me back. I really do think he has helped me in changing my negative perspective on my life and what I think others think of me . Thanks Rick

Rick Rodgers has been very helpful and insightful throughout our many sessions together. Rick took time to listen to my problems and helped me come up with many ways to tackle them. He helped me a lot when I was going through a big change in my life. Rick has been very insightful, non-judgmental, and patient with me. He allowed me to go at my pace and was willing to spend extra time trying to understand my problems and figure out different solutions and suggestions for me. I am in a much better place emotionally and mentally now and this is in large part because of him. I highly recommend him.
